hypoglycemia and amphetamines

Posted by leor on September 10, 2003, at 14:42:41

Hello. I am a list-member who was recently diagnosed with hypoglycemia. Meanwhile, I have had to withdraw from dexedrine. (It was prescribed for ADD, which I have now proven not to have.)

Although I have been carefully and gradually withdrawing from dexedrine I am, nonetheless, experiencing severe fatigue, anxiety, and a low motivation. I am beginning to suspect that my hypoglycemia is being aggravated by the withdrawal.

Have any of you by chance had a similar experience? If so, do you have any helpful suggestions about what I might do to minimize this problem until my body become used to the withdrawal? Also, I would be grateful for the URLs of good sites about hypoglycemia. Many thanks,

Leor

leor,

I am ADD but have never had a test. The Dex I take augments my other meds. To me, if you have a problem and you are prescribed a drug and it works on your symtoms, you don't have to have a disease label to accompany it. If it helped you, do you still have to stop it?
I dated someone who had hypoglycemia and she followed a strict diet and took B12 shots. This was years ago. I would just Google hypoglycemia and you'll have plenty of places to try.
If you feel comfortable with the Dex and your doc isn't skittish, take it as long as it doesn't interfere with the hypo. If you want to, of course.
BTW, what kind of testing did you take?

Good luck,

Phil
