I am a graduate student doing research on Neurontin and Serzone. I also have GAD. I would greatly appreciate anyone who would share their experiences with these medications. I would need to know if you are male or female, your age when taking the medication/medications and for how long, any other mood or psychotropic medications taken at the same time, your experience in terms of symptom relief, etc. with Neurontin and/or Serzone and any sexual side effects if applicable. Thanks for your support.

I am female/42.
I have been taking neurontin for 2.5 months.
It was prescribed to me for Fibromyalgia, chronic back pain and racing thoughts that prevent me from sleeping. And to deepen my stage of sleep.
I started with 300mg. First night I slept like a baby. Felt really good in the am. Never knew what stage 4 sleep felt like. I think next night was the same, but following nights, not so deep and found my inabilty to desire sleep, returning. (tolerance, I guess)
Pdoc wanted me to take 300mg am as well after one week on night time dosage. I really hated the way I felt. Zombie like. I told pdoc, I could not take Neurontin during the day. Pdoc told me to take both at night.
I am taking 900 mg. before bed.
I am still having trouble with falling asleep.
When I explain this to docs, they all say, "Well, some people take up to 4000mg).
This not comforting. I really dont want to take during the day and to initiate sleep, I think they are more straight forward meds. available.
I have been recently prescribed Wellbutrin during AM, as I have had back expereinces with SSRIs. (didnt sleep at all).
I could see neurontin being helpful for GAD. After you get use to the side effects, if thats possible. Tolerance seems to be an issue for me. So I imagine it is for others.
I have been diagnosed as depressed with a mildly manic personality. (go figure)
Hope this is helpful.
My drives are low. Could be a number of factors, including the Neurontin.
I have been prescribed Trazadone, to help initiate sleep. After 4 nights no effect. I feel sick, and sleep doesnt seem any deeper. I wake a coulpel of times a night, and can not return to sleep sometimes
Any other questions i missed answering let me know.

male/19
i was on a combination of neurontin (900mg) and lexapro (20mg) for bipolar I. prior to the neurontin i was only on the AD, but it was sending me into hypomania so the neurontin was supposed to even me out.
maybe i just wasn't taking enough lexapro, but the neurontin made me *crazy*. i had never been so wild in my life. my sex drive tripled (and i'm a 19y/o guy, so that says a lot) and i felt like i was completely happy and free. i later realized that i must have been manic, even though that doesn't really make sense, considering the high level of neurontin and low level of lexapro (this should have sent me into depression).
i was on it for two weeks and i crashed into depression (i think), and i just decided to stop taking it all together. i don't think it even took a week to get out of my system. i never went back to it or any other similar drug, and although i experience hypomania here and there, i can handle that better then i could handle being on neurontin.
i hope i covered everything.

I am a 22 y/o female and was taking Serzone for a little over a year. I was then prescribed Neurontin for my "mood" and took it about 1 month. The Neurontin did not help me at ALL. I felt no side effects, but I didnt feel any positive effects either. I was only on 100mg. Serzone was a well tolerated medication for me. It has a very low side effect profile and helped me alot. I took 50 mg before bedtime. I suffer with anxiety/panic disorder due to a drug overdose. I stopped taking Serzone because of the "LIVER" scare and I am now taking Lexapro which works alot better.

Thanks for the response. I heard about the liver scare with Serzone. For the next incoming responses, I am only interested in Neurontin experiences. Thanks...

Hi
I am new to this board. I saw this posting and had to reply.
I have been on neurontin for about 6 months and it has helped me . I have severe chronic pain from several medical problems, and the neurontin helps to ease the pain although it makes me very tired.
My doctor has increased my dose as of yesterday to help more with pain management 900 mg.
I have not had any other side effects from this med.
With out it I dont know what I would do.This is just my opinion and how it works for me. I know everyone is different and hope everyone finds the med that works for them.

Thanks again for all the responses to my research question about Neurontin. Please be sure to give all the pertinent information such as age at time of taking the medication as well as the duration, any other medication taken with Neurontin, whether you are male or female, experiences, and sexual side effects. I know many people have had good experiences with the medication for pain, bipolar disorder etc.. However, I only need those to respond who have been taking Neurontin for Generalized Anxiety. Thank you very much.
This is the end of the thread.
