I was prescribed Provigil two weeks ago and it has really been a Godsend and has helped a lot. Today I got called in for random drug testing for work. I know that if it shows up, all I have to do is prove that I have a legit prescription to be taking it, but was just wondering since it's not supposed to actually be a stimulent, does it show up on a drug test (non-fed test). Just wondering if I should be expecting a call questioning my results.
Anyone know?

Hi, unfortunately, Provigil will show up on a drug test and be mistaken for an amphetamine. It actually is not an amphetamine, but it acts like one and shows up on these tests that way. Klonopin may show up, it showed up in my drug test I had for an employer last summer. It also depends on whether the employer tests for benzodiazepines and other sedative-hypnotics.
Your employer will obviously be more understanding if you just tell him/her only if they do ask. Or, you could tell them before you are tested~I didn't, felt no reason to, since you're prescribed it, I'd wait and see if they even ask. Then, like you said, 'all I have to do is prove that I have a legit prescription to be taking it'
Your work record, I'm sure will speak for itself, and a doctor's note might help too:-)
Good luck!> I was prescribed Provigil two weeks ago and it has really been a Godsend and has helped a lot. Today I got called in for random drug testing for work. Here in this state, the employer does not get to know what the test indicated, just if you are dirty or clean. It was up to the lab to decide if you were dirty or clean, so I provided my proof to the lab when they called me to say the tests indicated I was dirty.

It's my undertanding that is how it works here too. If the lab needs clarification, the contact me directly and I can just show them my rx (or note from dr) and as long as I have that they will give me a pass on my test. I was just curious as to whether it would show up. I guess I will be getting that phone call for clarification. All I know about the type of test was that it was a non-federal random employment. (I don't operate any type of equipment outside of an office)

Provigil does not act like an amphetamine, and even if it did - that doesn't mean it would show up. Provigil is not chemically related to amphetamine, thus there is no way it would show up as amphetamine.

Didn't you have to tell them what prescriptions you were currently taking before the drug test?

No. I asked because I wanted to head off any questions and they said that they would contact me if there were any questions concerning my test.
