any one try trileptal?

Posted by Rainee on August 15, 2003, at 18:58:12

one week at 300 mgs a day felt a ---- lot hyper sexual. Today I just don't feel well my body feels so heavy. Does it take some time to reap the benifits? I'm Bi-polar II and also take a SSRI
and a benzo.

Thanks
Rainee

Hi Rainee, how are you??? Yes, I tried Trileptal-was on it for 4 months--major diarrhea :-(
I wish I could be more positive about that med, but for me it didn't do a thing, I gave it a chance too-just couldn't handle the side effects.

Best,
Gal

I just started trileptal about a month ago for BPII. I had no major side effects until I got up to 900 mg and then was really dizzy. Went back down to 600 per my pdoc until our next appt. But so far, I'm not impressed. I think I'm gaining weight b/c of it (that's not listed as a side effect, but then I lost weight on Lithium, so it could be my body is screwed up!). Also, I've had a major mixed episode/suicidal thing going on while I've been on it. Don't know if there's a wait period before it kicks in, but if not, I'm finding that I'm no better off on it than I was before. On a positive note, I have read on some other bds of other people's good experiences with it esp. re: bipolar depression. That might explain your recent hypersexuality. Maybe the tripletpal with the SSRI is a little too much and your pdoc just needs to tweek your dosage. Good luck & please keep me posted.

I took Trileptal earlier this year for 2 months for BPII also. It did make me hungrier, and it didnt seem to help for the anxiety/mania...But I know that it DOES work for many folks. Hang in there until it is clear whether it works or not...and for different folks, this takes a different amount of time.
