What do you recommend for depression, but for someone not on meds?

Low carb diet has helped many.
Includes elimination of excessive carbs (ie..sugar), stable energy level and added ben. of weight loss.
Good luck

Again, I have to suggest exercise. I was stumbling around in a haze with very low energy. At the time I was able to afford a personal trainer. It took a few weeks and a tug of war between me and the trainer but gradually my spirits lifted, my strength increased and my energy levels went through the roof! I felt 10 years younger (at least).

This was before I started medication. When I returned to work I decided to drop the workout sessions due to time constraints. I then turned to antidepressants which led to other psychotropic medication. It has now become a lifestyle for me. I am convinced if I had stayed on my exercise regimen I would not be on medication today.

If you cannot afford a personal trainer perhaps you might read a book on physical fitness or obtain advice from a knowledgeable friend. It is a worthwhile pursuit.

Finally, a significant number of symptoms are the result of a physical ailment or a lifestyle practice.
A thorough physical by a competent doctor and personal introspection may yield fruitful results.

I don't mean to belittle what you are going through. It's just that I feel I no longer have the option of living drug free. If you can avoid the suffering so many of us are enduring, then perhaps my rant will have been worthwhile. If all else fails you have a fallback option. Blessings to you.

Thank you. I appreciate all the posts I can get. I think I'll try the exercise...I could use it.

Thank you for listening. I forgot to mention that nutritional supplements are the best first "medicine" when treating depression. You might do a search here for the resident guru Larry Hoover (look for the thread below).

Many people have good results with fish oil or flax seed oil (concurrent with vitamin E). B vitamins ( B50's) seem to help as well as Vitamin C (1000 mg or more). There are many supplements and formulas to consider. One may wish to purchase in small quantities. St. John's Wort, for example, magnified my depression.

Thanks again for responding to my post.
