Well Concerta is Ritalin in time a release form and it comes in 36 and 54mg. Now that's over 8 hours or so. Remember this stuff is speed no two ways about it. I would be thinking about your heart if you plan on taking three or more of those yellow 20mg pills at one go. They only burn for 3 hours or so and then your gonna rebound. I weigh 230 and 40mg of the short acting variety would be more buzzy than I care for. I hate feeling medicated. Are you taking other meds as well? What are you taking the Ritalin for?

>>>>I'm actually taking it for ssri apathy, social phobia and I am a dysthemic,I am very lethargic, low mood etc.I actually have panic disorder as well. The Ritalin has no effect on my anxiety which was a suprise to me.I don't feel euphoric or high on it but I have increased energy, clarity of thoughts and I am able to go out in the world and talk to people. It is a really good med for me.I have tried a lot of meds and am kinda sorta have treatment resistant to a lot of meds.
Here is a breakdown of other meds.......
-zoloft 100 mgs
-ritalin have been using 30 mgs 2x a day
-klonopin 3-5 mgs
-Remeron 15 mgs for insomnia
-Ambien-if neededI was thinking of adding a small dose of Desipramine to the mix.
Take care

You sound a lot like me. I got concerned once they suggested adding a fifth drug to my cocktail. You start to take meds to counter the effects of another. It gets a bit crazy. I've come to belive SSRI's long term hold you down. I see them like a life preserver, they do a great job keeping you from drowning but for year around wear they limit your movement. You haven't had any sexual side effects with your cocktail?
Ritalin works great for me for a few months but starts to become less and less effective over the months. I have to lay off it for a few months and then go back on. But when it does work it really works.
I got off my cocktail and now just take Lamictal, 200mg. I take the occasional Ritalin. I went through a period of hell after I stopped taking Prozac, Resperdal, Ritalin and the third med I was always changing to attempt to find the elusive cherry on top. Ambien is the only med you take that I haven't tried.
Since the Lamictal started working, it is the best AD I've ever been on. I can definately recomend it for treatment resistent depression. Your results may be different of course. I just feel so much more comfortable not messing with a cocktail. All those interactions just can't be accurately charted or understood. I was constantly adjusting this and that based on hunches. The whole thing didn't even work that well either.

It seems like all the talk about reuptake inhibition, blocking receptors and other hypothesis etc.is all speculations. Its all a roll of the dice.So for someone like me its all about being a guinea pig :) It seems like psychiatrists just want us to be sexless compliant zombies lol
take care

I hope you didn't start at 200mg!! You don't feel any better at all? I got a mild response around 150mg after two months or longer. It was definately not fast enough for my liking. I was in the worst pain I've ever been in before it started to work. It may even have aggravated things now that I think about it. I am at 200mg now but thinking I need to increase that. Some people take 400mg. If I were you, I'd keep moving up the dose nice and slow like they say. It may have a window or threshold you need to reach. I think it works that way for most people. Don't give up yet. Are you in acute pain? I take Pindolol (aka Visken) when things are very bad.

Lamictal is for me just like any SSRI or Effexor, but without the typical side effects. They all worsened things for some time for me, which usually fades off. I definatley did not expect it from Lamictal. But I do not want to quit after that short time. Dont worry, its "just" a usual temporary drug realated side effect for me..
thanks
