I was wondering if anyone has used this combo with any success? Either for panic disorder and/or depresion.

I received some benefit from combining desipramine with Effexor, a potent serotoninergic drug. The combination was more effective than either one separately.

I did a number of years ago. I believe that it was Zoloft and Desiprimine. It was a good combination, except that it made my muscles weak (I like to ice skate). At least that is what I thought was going on, but I've been of the Desiprimine for years (4?) and I still can't skate. It seemed like a good excuse.

I asked my doctor if I would be able to play the piano once I started taking an MAOI. He said "Of course." I said, "That's great, because I can't play it now."

I take 10mg of desipramine with 300mg of Effexor XR, 75mg of Paxil CR, and 75mg of Clomipramine. Good stuff. I prefer the older antidepressants more than the SSRI's myself.

Is this drug stimulating? I liked vivactil but I'd like to stay away from serotonin drugs completely. I read that desipramine had no effect on serotonin at all. Are the TCA effects really bad? Or is a little dry mouth about it? I need a drug that can wake me up during the winter months. Weight gain is unacceptable. How many times a day do I need to take it?

I was on it for only 3 weeks. I went off because of the side effects - well, mainly just one side effect, and that was that I could not pee. It would be like, I'd go hours and hours of having to go and I simply couldn't. Finally I'd be able to, but I started imagining that I'd have to go to the ER for a catheter or something.
Anyways, I think it is more stimulating than nortriptylene, another TCA. I think that the weight gain is supposed to be less of a problem too, but there is still that possibilitity. I think that I took it 2x/day, but it might have just been once. I can't remember.
Good luck if you decide to try it!
