Sublingual formulation questions - hok-anyone?

Posted by elleff on July 7, 2003, at 19:22:45

I've just come across this interesting thread from a few months ago concerning sublingual selegiline: http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20030310/msgs/208764.html

Can anyone offer any advice as to how you might "reformulate" oral selegiline tables (selegiline HCL) into a form that is best absorbed sublingually?

As hok notes, many sublingual formulations involve the citrate salt of a drug.

Can anyone with chemical/pharmaceutical know how tell me whether it is possible to convert selegiline HCL into a citrate salt. One idea which comes to my amateur mind is to disolve it along with one of the urinary alkalinizers (eg Ural) which contain citric acid and sodium citrate - which I presume must create an alkaline citrate buffer. Would this work?

Any other ideas?

Thanks for any suggestions.
