I was prescribed 100mg/day of zoloft for panic disoder/anxiety about 3 weeks ago and apart from several side effects i think its great! The side effects are vivid dreams, waking up disorientated, dry mouth, diarrhea, rapid weight loss, slight tremor and muscle twitches. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has experienced similar symptons and if so do these symptons go away in time or should i try another med, the symptons aren't too severe and im hoping there temporary!

Probably all-in all Zoloft would be my favorite SSRI if it wasn't for the sleep disturbances-I think it is the active metabolite (breakdown product)desmethylsertraline. I would wake up and blankets/sheets turned at 90 degree angles to each other or wrapped all around me (I must have that restless leg movements-RLS-in sleep)! Other than that, the only time my pdoc would say something like "this is the best I ever seen you!" was when I was taking it.
Hey man, if it works keep taking it! It is tough to find stuff that you can tolerate that works. If you are saying things like "symptoms aren't too -severe", you have probably found the "one".
You might be able to drop to 50mg/day as a maintenance dose after a few more weeks-and the side effects should be more tolerable.

I have some of those side effects plus a mild case of jaw clenching. I added wellbutrin and the diarrhea went away, but the sleep disturbances worsened. I don't have weight loss, morning disorientation or dry mouth but I get dry eyes which get *really* irritated.

When I took Zoloft, one thing that helped alot was dividing the dose into half in morning and half at night. I had far less nausea, no more diarrhea. I found the dry mouth and sleep eventually got better over time.
Hang in there!

For panic/stress/irregular heartbeats, I was put on 50mg/day and had trouble sleeping, and I also seemed to feel sort of sleepy about 3-4 hours after taking it in the morning. I tried splitting the dose up into 25 in the am and pm and I was able to sleep better. I would also get sweaty at night, but this also went away. Also, I did experience mild diahrrea and nervousness for the first few weeks.
Now I have cut back to just 25mg/day, once in the am, and it is working great for me. I feel more focused at work (Im a software developer), I don't worry unnecessarily, and everything seems to have that bright, cool look to it like it did when I was a kid (Hope somebody knows what I mean). I've been taking it for approx. 3.5 months now, and have been at 25mg/day for 4 weeks. Also, it took about
4 weeks for me to start noticing any changes. One of my favorite effects of it is the vivid dreams. They are so cool that I really look forward to going to bed each night to see what weirdness is going to happen in my dreams. I've actually had dreams where normal everyday things happened in them, and I later had trouble figuring out if my memory of a conversation or interaction with someone was
real or from one of my dreams. Pretty weird, but in a cool way.I bet your side effects will go away over time.

I had vivid dreams/nightmares the whole year I took zoloft. I also had trouble falling asleep, and staying asleep. I don't know if it was the sleep loss or not, but my attention span and short term memory were even worse, and they're normally bad anyways.
The other se's, the dry mouth, nausea, etc. went away. I can't speak to tremor, as I never had it.
The se's sound fairly mild, like they're worth the trade off if they can quell your anxiety.

I never had any the physical side effects when I was on Zoloft, and rapid weight loss, unless there is weight to be lost, sounds dangerous!
The most reportable side effects for me, once the acute depression had been abated, was an almost total apathy toward life, a sensation which is truly not mine and complete anorgasmia, which made me try and get off zoloft as soon as the major depresive episode had resolved! otherwise, it was worth it but only in aan acute manifestation for me.
This is the end of the thread.
