Hi all,
I am going onto one of the above ssri's this week in combination with xanax and would like to know which one people have had best results with for someone with social anxiety, obsessional worrying, and depression?
just to note I've tried paxil, celexa, effexor, but for me personally the paxil made me too sleepy, the celexa just pooped and the effexor made my anxiety worse.

xanax is amazing in itself. it probably won't matter what the other one is.

I'd suggest (in my opinion) Luvox. I hear it has the least side effects out of all the ssri's and it is the least activating - and due to it's indication for OCD - it could help your obsessional thinking - but I hear it doesnt work to good for depression. I have just myself started on Luvox for my OCD and social anxiety. I take 50 mgs so far and have noticed releif from my social anxiety but i dont think im at a high enough dose for OCD though. I take Tranxene for my GAD and it helps pretty well.
Btw, I know you what you mean - I took a trial of Effexor XR and It brought my anxiety to the max - I also have Generalized Anxiety Disorder due to that medication. I hate Effexor. It caused me alot of problems

Hm, Yeah.. I think luvox is the one I would like to try the most, because of it's OCD treating properties...I'm not really as conerned about the depression right now..my main concern is the right medications to combat the obessional thinking and anxiety.. but I'm limited by time, as the laws state here in Australia that no person can be subscribed benzo's for longer than four weeks..and it's getting to the point that I feel like a major screw up because none of the anti dep, or anti psychotics are doing anything but lowering my energy levels and raising my appetite levels..
From what I read on Effexor, it works on inhibiting harmones in direct connection with cortisol, which is the stress hormone that I probably have way too f'in much of right now. I was bouncing of the walls on Effexor, I actually couldn't sleep for three days and started writing poetry on my bedroom wall! my thinking was sped up to the max.

As I mentioned in another post here, Prozac made me extremely anxious, and my current pdoc says he avoids it for depressed patients with anxiety problems because it often has this effect. Zoloft caused bizarre mood swings and anxiety for me (and I was taking Klonopin and Xanax along with it).
I've never tried Luvox, but my sister (who is quite anxious and has also been diagnosed with OCD) did quite well on it, plus Xanax as needed.
Good luck!
This is the end of the thread.
