Birthday blues

Posted by Taylor123 on June 22, 2003, at 8:19:12

Hey all,
"It's my party and I'll cry if I want to."
My haze is thick, run out of Effexor because I took way too much of it when I was hypomanic/manic. (Triple dosed it some days.)
And the Olanzapine is doing nothing but drive my appetite.

So, as I sit at the computer, singing happy birthday to myself in a mournful way, I wonder what on earth this is all about.
Don't want to bring anyone down, but I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself I guess. The big 25 years today and I have a string of hospitalizations behind me already and my meds are being changed once again. Will start Trileptal tommorow, fish oil and get another script for Effexor.
Oh well.
Take care...
Tay

P.S THANKU for listening and making me feel as if I have a crew of people who really care, beyond my immediate world. Thanx guys.
P.P.S Yes Ron, I will do my homework on my meds!

Hey Taylor - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Who knows, this may be your lucky year! You know, finding the right medication, no hospitalizations etc.

Gee, the Queen herself would be depressed if she was taking Zyprexa on her birthday! That stuff is lethal!

I am anxious to know how you do on the Trileptal since I may be starting that as well along with the lamictal.

Good luck!

Maxime

Tay,

It will get better, Tay. It will get better, sweetie Lawn-mower-girl.

> Don't want to bring anyone down, but I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself I guess. The big 25 years today and I have a string of hospitalizations behind me already and my meds are being changed once again.

Happy Birthday! Do you ever get a picture in your mind of the people who post? In my minds eye I pictured you as 24 years old. Turns out I was fairly close in your case.

You're young Tay and you have a full life ahead of you. Problems are just solutions waiting to be found. With the help of your pdoc, your job is to find one of the viable solutions.

> Will start Trileptal tommorow, fish oil and get another script for Effexor.

Sounds like a plan. What brand of fish oil? Bottled liquid or capsules? What dose? Did you see my post to you above regarding fish oil?

> P.P.S Yes Ron, I will do my homework on my meds!

Good. Hope you feel better very soon. It WILL get better.

Happy birthday!! Sorry that it couldn't be happier. I always seem to end up feeling at least mildly depressed and sorry for myself on my bday! It just makes you think (more than usual) about your life...

Busy making love to Nardil at Night
Lithium and Anafranil I hate!

Ron...between you and me...and I am really compromising my anonymity by saying this...I will be appearing at many fund-raising concerts for Nardil in USA this year- very far from Australia!
I will be the 'poet extrordinare'!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, that would be bad!!

Take Care Ron- 'BRO!'
Ace, Nardil Maniac, 90mg!

hey ACE!
Thanx for the birthday wish...
Guys name for a girl: don't know what my folks were thinking!
Was being nosy and read you post to Ron, I don't want to expose your already vunrable anonymity, but does that mean you're an Aussie?
I was just feeling a bond, that's all!?!

Take care, and it's awesome that you're sorted on the Nardil!
P.S don't stress on the guy/gal thing, as I don't get the confusion in person: my long blonde hair seems to be a bit of a give away!!!

Tay

Hey Taylor!,
I actually think it's a lovely name for a girl. Not average at all!

Yeah, I'm an Aussie, mate! It's preety cool down here, nice landscapes stuff like that. Have you heard of much down here? Best of all they have Nardil down here! What part of this crazy world are you from?

Happy Birthday again too you and thanks so much for your kind words!

Ace.

G'day mate!

I'm as true blue as they come!
Grew up on the East coast (not to be too specific!!!)
But I'm overseas at the moment, in Europe!
It's great to feel that good old aussie bond, considering that I'm so far away from home.

I'm stoked to know that you think my name is not too masculine!

Don't know if you've been reading most of my posts, but I have to decided to deny the Carbamazipine (tegretol) and go back on Lithium. I guess it's time to bow down to the inevitable... it works!
Just needed to share!

Keep smiling on the Nardil!
Fond wishes from your fellow Aussie...
Tay

Tay,

A week or two ago I had the following thoughts but I did not share them because at the time you were not viewing lithium in a favorable light. May I share my thoughts with you now?

Would it be possible to try a lower dosage of lithium than you were previously taking? The idea being that a lower dosage might still be able to hold your hypomania in check while, at the same time, reducing or eliminating the side effect of diminished creative.

Or if the lower dosage is not adequate to keep you out of hypomania, then maybe a low dose of an AED (e.g.; Trileptal) added to the low dose of lithium might control your hypomania. The lithium side effects and the AED side effects might be slight or non-existent because of the low dosage level of each medication.

If you don't mind my asking, what dosage, blood level, and brand of lithium were applicable to your situation when you felt the need to stop taking lithium a couple weeks ago due to the loss of your creativity and other lithium side effects?

I consider myself moderately bipolar II and a low dosage of lithium keeps me out of hypomania while at the same time I experience little or no side effects. I take 600 mg/day of Lithobid (a slow release lithium carbonate) and this gives me a blood level of 0.4 mmol/l.

What do ya think?

Hey Ron,
How are you doing?

Well, with my tail between my legs, I decided to crawl back to the little white tabs and graciously accept that Lithium does work for me!

I have tried to avoid the inevitable, but haven't yet started the Trileptal and want to get off this god-damn awful Zyprexa stuff. So, with a sardonic grin from my p.doc, I am back on 1000mg of Priadel (ext.-release Li+)

But Alas, when I thought I was destined for a future on one horribly uneventfull level mood plain, you have come up with the goods!
I was reading about using the two drugs in combination, allowing for a low dose of each, but read that there is an increased risk of neurotoxicity when combining Lithium with ox/carbamazapine.
Do you know if they are used together in practice commonly?
I sure would love to try that combo once I am off the Zyprexa (should give the Lithium 2-3weeks).
I shall read more. (Do my homework as I'm told...yes Ron!)
In response to your query of type of Li+ etc, as above, and my blood level is usually 1.2-1.3mmol/L

OH- and thanx for pointing out to our dear ACE, that I am actually of the female variety!
(Maybe it was something about mowing the lawn... better get the equal rights bureau onto ACE!!!)
LOL!

Take care, hope all is well... and just to let you know I'm still swallowing my fish oil daily...awaiting my response eagerly!

Kind wishes
Tay

> Do you know if they are used together in practice commonly?

At one point I was considering trying Trileptal as an add-on to my Lithobid. I did not come across the research that shows a possible increased risk of neurotoxicity when combining Lithium with ox/carbamazapine. If you can find the link I'd be interested in reading it.

> In response to your query of type of Li+ etc, as above, and my blood level is usually 1.2-1.3mmol/L

Why does your pdoc want you blood levels so high? Is your dx BP I or BP II? I'm no doctor, but I'd think that much lithium would flatted anybody's creativity.
