Hi all,
I have been taking the Effexor XR for 5 days now. I am pleased with the results and do not want to quit taking it. However, I feel anxious and nervous at times and my sex drive has decreased dramatically. I feel that I don't ever get excited or happy about anything, this is weird. I am on the Effexor for weight loss. I was a very humerous person before I began this medicine. Now, I feel almost numb at times. will these side affects go away or should I look into changing meds?
please help

Your side effects might very well go away with time. 5 days isn't very long. But... it seems weird to me that you would be put on Effexor for weight loss. I would think there would be better drugs for that?

There are lots of drugs for weight loss. If the Effexor is seriously impacting the joy you find in life through sex, humor, etc., you may want to consider whether that is worth whatever weight loss may come, especially if you don't need to be treated for depression.

I would think the side effects of an AD for weight loss would not outway the benefits.
I would do some homework on Effexor for weight loss. There are a lot of other meds out there for weight loss that are not AD's.
Good Luck!

The whole activity with these meds is to get the desired effects while avoiding "unacceptable" side effects. That's IT. All meds have side effects, many are quite tolerable. From my point of view you have unacceptable side effects. There are hundreds of other meds. Some work well for some people, the same meds aren't so nice for others. There is no way to tell before hand. Don't put up with a drug that is as bad as the symptoms your taking it for. Effexor did bad things to my sex life too. Somebody on this board undoubtedly is unphased by it. It works great for them. But not for you and I. Keep searching. It can take quite awhile but you will find a good one if you persist.
