I've had OCD for 32 years. Only recently have I tried meds for treating symptoms ( I've managed quite well w/ just therapy alone. ) Drs. have tried Prozac, Paxil and Luvox. Now, I'm on Effexor XR. I can't say that I have ever noticed any positive change but lots of negatives i.e. side effects. Anyone having success w/ other meds for OCD?

REPLY: I too have suffered from OCD most of my life. I was recently diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder at age 33 and so the doctor recommended that I try Strattera. I have also taken Prozac and Buspar for years. I thought those gave me good control, but now with the addition of the Strattera I find that I am able to shut off the obssessive worrying much better. I have also noticed a big improvement in the ability to just let things be and not have to have everything so darn perfect in my environment. Yet at the same time I am more productive.
With the Strattera it took me more than a month to feel the full benefits of the medication yet others that have posted on this web-site say that they noticed a difference right away.

So your saying that Straterra works for your OCD (as well as ADD)? Do you know of others that take Straterra for ocd?
Thanks!

"geodon worked wonders"

What are the main side effects of Geodon?
Thanks for any response!

I don't know of anybody specifically that takes Strattera for OCD, but from various posting I have read of others that take it for depression & anxiety eventhough it was technically released as a medication for ADD/ADHD this last January. From what I have heard is that clinical trials were initially done on the treatment of depression and the results didn't seem successful enough to market the medication. It was then later that it was somehow discovered that the Strattera gave relief to those suffering with ADD/ADHD. So then it was tested in clinical trials on people with attentional disorders. The trials seemed successful so the medication was finally approved for release January 2003.
Since OCD is an anxiety related disorder time will tell if doctors begin to prescribe it for OCD specifically.
My doctor did not prescribe the Strattera with the intentions of it calming my OCD down, but it just happened to help in my case.
Before the Strattera I already felt a huge relief from my OCD/anxiety with Prozac and Buspar treatment. Now I feel even better with the Strattera added to my regimine of medications.
Have you tried taking several medications in combination to see if it helps with your OCD?
For some reason Prozac and Buspar seem to be commonly prescribed at the same time and I know from my experience it was a real good combination.
Just a thought!
