antidepressant w/ cfs and fibromyalgia???

Posted by brooketxs2 on June 17, 2003, at 20:28:59

i am just wondering if anyone here has any suggestions about an antidepressant for me. i also have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, not sure if an ad will affect this at all. haven't been on an ad in 3 years but i'm having a relapse of depression. i see a new doc tomorrow and i want to have my facts straight, seeing as no doctors in this small town have a clue how to treat any of these problems.

thanks!

I have the same illnesses (FMS/CFS). All I've ever been offered are SSRI's and pain meds from traditional medicine. I've resisted taking Lexapro for awhile now, but finally succumbed two weeks ago. I've had horrible SE's, but I'm *extremely* sensitive to this class of drugs. Have you exhausted all the natural alternatives and supplements, such as acupuncture, water exercises, yoga, SAM-e, 5-HTP, Magnesium, etc.? If not, I will be happy to give you some helpful links of products and information that helped me in the past. Unfortunately, they weren't managing my symptoms effectively enough, which led me both to therapy and opening myself up to the option of medication. Lexapro has been great for a lot of folks here, so let us know the outcome of your appointment and I'm sure there'll be loads of encouragement and support whatever you decide. Just remember that it is your decision and not to let the new doc excert undue pressure on you. Good luck! Sabina

does cfs mean that you are basically tired all the time? If it does, I have real sympathy for those of you suffering from it. Since I started taking Parnate, I have been so tired so much of the time day and night. I'm sure that my experience on Parnate doesn't hold a candle to what you are going through, but let's just say that I feel your pain.

A link that might help you with our (brooketxs2) multiple diagnoses: http://www.immunesupport.com

I (personally) suspect that may be people posting here that could be classified under these criteria but do not yet realise it. While I do believe it is over-diagnosed at this point, that shouldn't discount its validity. I hope this link helps.
