I was just started on Gabitril for bipolar spectrum. I was also started on Zoloft for OCD, Panic Disorder, PTSD, and GAD. I am very scared of side effects and especially of weight gain. I have an eating disorder as well. I would appreciate any information anyone could give me about these meds. Thank you in advance.

Interesting. When I was taking Gabitril I was also taking Zoloft (12.5mg/day) for BP-II and panic. I was switched from Depakote to Gabitril and noticed definite weight loss-but that could have been stopping the Depakote. But, I definitely lost several pounds over the course of the two months I was taking it. Other than the dumbing effect during the day, I didn't have any other side effects that I can think of. I hope more folks will jump in that have tried it.

Thank you for responding. I appreciate the information. I noticed you mentioned the side effects you had for the two months you were on Gamitril. May I ask you why you stopped? Thank you so much.

I reached 24mg/day after several weeks of 4mg/day/week upward dose increasing. The week before that I was taking 12mg at bedtime and 8mg midday. (20mg/day) When I took 12mg at bedtime and then 12mg midday (instead of 8mg) all at once and went to work a couple of hours later and was totally wiped out-couldn't tell where I was or what I was doing. I felt panicky in my head because nothing felt real. I also felt disconnected from my body (depersonalization) and that made me feel panicky too. But, I didn't have any classic autonomic symptoms of panic-it was all mental-like it was inverted somehow. It was like having A GOOD REASON to panic and at the same time not having the usual autonomic panic RESPONSES. Very odd. Also, I had nearly total facial and forehead numbness. Somebody probably could have hit me in the head with a hammer and I wouldn't have felt a thing. Didn't like that crap at all.
