My daughter has been changed from zyprexa 20mg to seroquel 300 mg. (to help stabilize mood in BP - mixed states possbile)(She takes lots of other meds as well)
What is the seroquel dosing range? (for this purpose)
Also, saw on a seroquel pamplet that possible peroidic eye exams could be necessary. Has anyone heard of this and why it's recommended?
How does Abilify compare?
Thanks

my personal experience on these meds was that 15mg of abilify taken once kept me awake for 3 days, 5mg of zyprexa taken once put me to sleep for 4, and that 6.25 mg (smallest size tablet cut into quarters) of seroquel put me to sleep quite well but i had residual grogginess in the morning.
i believe the more usual dose for seroquel in bipolar disorder is 100mg b.i.d.-t.i.d. they say that abilify works for some refractory patients, but it has relatively low efficacy and not a real super response rate (my p-doc said that it was around 40% in his experience, and it was mostly with schizophrenia and autism, fewer in b.a.d.--i ask him questions about all sorts of drugs even if i have no luck on them cuz i have a real thirst for knowledge).

Hi,
I am sorry that I do not have any expereince with Zyprexa or Abillify, but I do take Seroquel for Bi-Polar II to address aggitation and anxiety. Typcial therapuetic range is around 300-600 with, (I think), a maximum of 800 mg a day.
I am primarily depressed, and my DR said that much smaller doses can often work for BP II patients. so I take 50 mg a day. I made me VERY tired at first so I took it a bedtime, but now (after about two weeks) I can take a 25 mg pill during the day without it effecting me. I feel that I has definitely helped me.
Best of Luck
