Has anyone heard of any trials being done using VNS therapy for Bipolar patients. I know that this is approved for seizure control in epilepsy patients. My daughter has so many problems with medication (side effects, lower than therapeutic levels despite high dosages)and I wondered if anyone else has heard of this procedure.

I know of trials for treatment-resistant depression but not for bipolar - however, if memory serves, Cyberonics (the company that makes the VNS) will be starting trials for obesity, Prakinson's and bipolar disorders - I THINK. Check out http://www.cyberonics.com. Go to the Message Board area - I think there are some posts regarding the VNS and bipolar disorders.
Good luck...
