Is this vertigo? Help

Posted by disney4 on May 24, 2003, at 13:41:13

When I close my eyes, it feels as if my head is moving back and forth. It sounds strange, I know, but it is truely hard to describe. I am laying perfectly still, but it is just the sensation that my head is moving. It keeps me awake at night. Does anyone know what this could be and have any suggestions? THanks,
ELsie

Elsie,

Do you suffer from hypotension? Have you taken any new meds lately? Just a thought...

Thanks! Hypotension is low blood pressure, isn't it? If so, I do have low blood pressure. I didn't realize there could be a connection. Do you have any further info?

Thanks,
Elsie

Elsie,

Sorry I don't know much about this.
I suffered from something similar after taking low-dose perphenazine for several years. Sitting or lying down was followed by a sensation of the building moving back and forth, as in an earthquake. This happened not long after there really was a mild earthquake and at first I thought these were after-shocks- till I realized no one else was feeling them. It turned out that my blood pressure was low and this may have been caused by the perphenazine. Several months later I suffered from what seemed to be some sort of adrenal crisis and and one of the symptoms was severe vertigo.
What medication are you taking? Is your hypotension getting worse? Have you seen your doctor? Your symptoms may not necessarily be caused by the meds.
I hope you feel better.

Kari.

Hi Kari,

I am taking Neurontin and klonopin right now. I think I may have some residual effects from a bad combo of meds I took a few years ago. I do have low blood pressure anyway, so this is probably what is happening. I may need to lower my Neurontin, but the Klonopin seems to help my condition.

Thanks again,
Elsie

Glad the Klonopin is helping. Hope you find the combination and dosage that is right for you.

Kari.
