Been on Parnate for 4 days and I am pretty exhausted even though I'm only taking 30mg/day so far. Does this fatigue ever stop or does it get worse as I up the dosage?
thx

I stayed on Parnate for 7 weeks, and I could never overcome the fatigue. Too bad, because another MAOI (Nardil) had worked great for me. (I finally stopped Nardil after a few years due to excessive weight gain.)

Same thing happened to me when taking nardil, took naps during the day, eventually went away :)

When you say exhausted do you mean sleepy or a feeling of being physically spent?

OK, you got me. Maybe I was being a little overly dramatic. I would say I feel 7 parts sleepy, 3 parts physically spent. Tired, really.

Hmmm. I find Parnate to be highly activating when I take it in the morning. However, it's SO activating, that later in the day, several hours after my last dose, I feel physically spent. But as my body gets used to it (I've gone on and off it several times), and it becomes less activating, the fatigue later in the day eases up, too. It doesn't make me sleepy, though (in fact, I can't get any sleep on the stuff without Trazadone).

So, I don't know if it's sleepiness or physical exhaustion, but at around 3:30 in the afternoon I feel an overwhelming urge to nap. I am hoping this goes away eventually, b/c if I do nap I wont be able to fall asleep at night.

I am sure it will probably eventually go away. If it really doesn't after a few months, you could look into taking modafinil (provigil) which I believe is safe with MAOI's, though your doc may be a little nervous about this. By the way, have you felt any AD effects yet?

>Well, it's been about a week and I am only up to 30mg/day. I would say that I am feeling somewhat better. I don't feel great or anything, but I am also not ruminating on my own misery like I was before.
I am also noticing that I have a bit more will to get up and do things. For instance, I actually just got up, went outside and filled my prescription for Nifedipine (supposed to take this in case of hypertensive crisis), which I had been procastinating on for a week.
This is the end of the thread.
