Yes, that is generally the case. Perhaps not under every circumstance, but yes.

Just curious. I don't have ADD but I get sedation from effexor and still have residual depression. Did Ritalin have an added antidepressant effect?

It's a good combo
Ritalin has an added antidepressant effect... plus it seems to reduce anxiety (it used to increase it without the effexor)

>That's really interesting that it reduces anxiety! What are your anxiety symptoms? My main problem is anxiety symptoms that are clearly associated with depression.
Are you on the SR version?
What doses of Ritalin and Effexor are you on?
Did you have fatigue from Effexor?--I do and it is one of the reasons I am interested in a stimulant.
Have you tried other stimulants with Effexor, specifically Dexedrine?
Thanks for answering, it will be quite helpful.

yes it is very strange that it reduces anxiety... it most definately increased anxiety when i took it without an AD..... but i do know that it has a synergy with SSRIs so maybe it helps them work better.. who knows... and maybe the anti-anxiety effect is temporary, i just started the AD a few weeks ago (5-6)
my anxiety is ... social phobia... agoraphobia... GAD at one time... i take ativan now and havn't been without a benzo in the 6 years or so since i started meds with the exception of a 4 month period with kava kava (did horrible) and a 6 month? period with gabapentin (good, but could use more potency)

it's hard to tell ... probably not, but i don't find it energizing either... and since i am a hypersomniac, i definately could use a stimulant even if i didn't have ADHD
> Have you tried other stimulants with Effexor, specifically Dexedrine?my doc won't let me touch other stimulants (i'm bipolar and i believe ritalin is the safest)

I take an interesting combo of meds,Methadone,Paxil, and Dexedrine(Xanax at night). The Dex keeps me from nodding and helps me concentrate and work.It all seems to work well together for the symptoms I have(chronic hip and back pain, some ADD and Anxiety along with that). However, this combo seems to really wear on my system after a few weeks,so I have to back off the Dex a bit to replenish my natural mental/physical capacities.I,ll go 3 wks. on/1 wk. off on it.I,m scared I,ll get too tolerant or totally burn out.It seems to help,I guess.Festus
