Remeron jitters and nervousness

Posted by McPac on May 9, 2003, at 21:41:11

Want to try Remeron again. My first time on it, my doc raised my dose from 7.5mg to 45mg---in ONE jump!!! Wayyyyyy too much norepinephrine effect (adrenaline)---I got sooo jittery/nervous/ w/racing heartbeat...couldn't stand that effect. I want to try it again only raising the dose GRADUALLY in small increments...probably not even going as high as 45 mg. Anybody else get that jittery/nervous effect? If so, how did you deal w/ that? Thanks!!!

I'm wondering at what dose Remeron starts to lose its great knack for inducing sleep?
I KNOW that it works great for sleep at a low-dose (7.5-15mg/night), as it's always helped me sleep well at that dose. But at what point when you begin raising the dose does it lose the sleep effect? I need to raise the dose for depression purposes but don't want to lose that great sleep effect.
Thanks for any responses.

30 mg gave me that jittery effect, like I had drunk 16 pots of coffee. 15 mg was a good dose,
for responce and tolerability.

The last time I tried it I started out low 7.5mg and quickly (every few days) increased it to 15mg and then to 30mg. I still felt really foggy-headed and drowsy during the day on 30mg, but I did notice some sleep *disruption* when I hit the 30mg dose. It was like lucid dreaming or something. In some ways it felt like I never slept all night at all-like I was sleep-walking without walking-difficult to explain!

>>>>>>> I already feel jittery on only 22.5 mg! Feels like my heart is beating faster and I feel more "bothered"/irritable. Geez, many people that are taking MUCH higher doses have never even had this effect but something about my body chemistry is sensitive to even this dose. I am trying to increase the Remeron so that I can simultaneously DEcrease my Zoloft. Don't think I'll be able to decrease the Zoloft much if all I can handle is a puny 15mg dose of Remeron...I'm wondering if after being on the Rem. for awhile if the jitters may subside or even go away? (I kind of doubt that but I'm not sure). I know I can handle 15 mg without that effect, as I've already tried that dose, just can't believe that 22.5 is a problem.

As your receptors adjust, you may not feel as jittery. Also, some studies suggest that with agitated typical depression Remeron, 15 mg is optimal and that 30 is better for atypicals.
