Dear all,
I wish to distribute some information here.
NUTRITIONAL THERAPY
Take 3 fish oil (omega 3) capsules a day. The EPA and DHA contents should be around 3000 mg. This is a kind of mood stabilizer, norishes the brain as it converts omega 6 acids to 3 acids, which are flexible, and calms you down, relieve you of depression and helps to reduce OC symptoms in many individuals.Take lots of complex carbohydrates eg. potatoes, wheat bread, brown rice etc to boost your serotonin production. Don't take coffee, caffeine, soft drinks and junk food. These contain caffeine that increases your anxiety.
Take lots of vegetables and fruits. Cut down on meats.
Take calcium and magnesium supplements to further calm you down.
DRUG THERAPY
If you have no response to a particular SSRI, augment it (eg. prozac with trazodone, clonazepam, anafranil). Also increase the SSRI to maximum dosage and stay on it for a longer period of time.EXERCISE THERAPY
Exercise, but don't engage in competitive sports as they boost your dopamine and NE levels. Engage in relaxing sports such as walking, swimming, running, stretching.MUSIC THERAPY
Listen to soft relaxing music as this boosts your serotonin levels also.HOBBY THERAPY
Don't play exciting games like roller coaster, video games as these increase your dopamine and NE levels significantly. OCD patients have high levels of dopamine and NE levels. So there is a need to reduce these levels. Engage in relaxing hobbies instead.BEHAVOIORAL THERAPY
Spikes are the moments when you are attacked by thoughts. Ruminations are the moments when you are obsessing. Risk taking and living with uncertainty as well as being contented with less than perfect is the antidote to OCD. The critical variable here is NOT to attend to the ruminations. The spikes will increase when you are getting better. The important thing is not to attend to the rumination. This is very similar to exposure and prevention.SPIRITUAL THERAPY
Studies have been conducted that shows that prayer, bible study, church attendance helps depressed patients. Faith in God and Jesus Christ is very important. Devote a time segment to God daily, praying and communicating to Him. Seek His kingdom first, seek His wisdom, surrender everything to Him, and seek His healing.Take these down and tell me how it goes.
God bless.

Mills........now I'm no fan of the Dr. Bob school of civility, but THAT post offended even me. I don't know whatever history you may have with the other poster, but that was a bit rough.

Hey Buddy,
Who do you think you are calling that?
This dude has every right to his opinion and is only trying to help others. If you don't agree with him, don't answer him. Simple. A lot of people on this site are preety sensitive as it is without attacks like that.

I apologise if certain of my words contain 'religious elements' that offend people who do not believe in an almighty God.Life goes on for all of us.
Peace be with all of you,

Just want to say it's great that you have a faith in a God. My chemistry/physics and most of all philosophy studies make it very hard to believe in a traditional conception of God, but I am a firm believer in a spirit - something which transcends all rational faculty - it can't be touched - it is an energy form which is real, but not like the types of energy we talk about in the physical sciences. Who Knows dude?
But keep up your faith if it helps - BTW, I got your email to me and emailed back. Didn't get it? I think it's something to do with my uni (the only place i ever have access to a computer!)

Thanks freedom; there was a lot of useful information in your post. I didn't think it insensitive in the slightest and, although I'm not a Christian, I am capable of taking your contention of the impotance of spirituality in our lives and applying it to my own personal beliefs. I accept your advice in the spirit I believe it was intended.
Best to all who take the time to post here.

Why do you have to be like that? No, i'm freakin serious. You may have serious problems with Christianity or Christians or religious people in general-- whatever-- fine-- but your comment was absolutely ridiculous and cold. If it bothered you, you could have just ignored it, or at least just have said something like "I personally don't need Christianity and think it's a lie" or whatever. But no, you have to act like a jerk. You have to be mean. Thank you for making this world a better place.
It's attitudes like yours that make me hate this world.

Dear Freedom,
I have some feedback to your thoughtful and very helpful post that I dearly hope you will consider - it's offered in love. I am very devoted to my spiritual practice, it's been the one constant ground of Being in my life. I honor and abolutely love Jesus as the most influencial teacher I could ever hope to know. I mean WOW, what a guy! I am grateful beyond words that I've discovered the necessity of nurturing my soul first and foremost. However, I cringed when I got to your section on Spirituality.I was raised a Christian, was deeply involved in many levels of Bible study and yet have since embraced a more inclusive belief system that honors all cultures and all the prophets and teachers whom I deeply know to be speaking from their truth. The main issue I have with Christianity is it's exclusivity and devaluing of other teachings. Most disturbing is the denigration of peoples who do not resonate with this particular interpretation of That which cannot be interpreted. Because of this, many have been harmed throughout time in the name of Christ - think the Crusades for example. Christianity is by no means the only perpetrator of such inhumanity, but all such warped actions are products of fear and not dictums of grace. Jesus most certainly did not want this division, He embraced all in the spirit of compassion and Love. I truly believe that "There is no Way to the Father but by me." has been badly misinterpreted. The Bible's true message unfortunately has suffered much due to opportunistic translation and interpretation in the cause of the political regimes. Read up on the Council of Nicea in the 4th Century if you dare. The Gnostic and Nag Hammadi scrolls refer to an unadulterated message far removed from the My Way or the Highway school of thought.
I am not criticizing your Christian faith and in fact bless you for having a strong faith in these troubled times. However, if you want your valuable message to reach all those who could be greatly helped by it, you might reconsider presenting it in a manner that will be gently heard by all. Unfortunately, alot of hackles are raised when there's any hint of fundamentalism of any sort. Think of someone who presented such pearls of wisdom and then capped it off with some reference whereby your hackles were jumping out of their sockets. Spirit is Spirit and does not need a frame of reference that must be espoused in order to radiate The Loving Light.
Blessings,
BarbaraCat

I'd like discussion of religious faith to be redirected to (a) Psycho-Babble Faith if it's supportive of religious faith or (b) Psycho-Social-Babble if it isn't, but still is civil. Thanks,

Mills, i'm sorry. Seriously, i was gonna say so even before Dr. Bob's "please be civil" message.
i still think your post was extremely rude and insensitive, but you might not have meant it to be as cruel or closed-minded as it seemed. And my response to it was overly harsh. Sorry.
(By the way, BarbaraCat, message for you in ps. babble-faith).

> BobHiDr. Bob,
I honestly think "questionmark" was apologizing. I probably shouldn't get in the middle of this, but it seems a bit unfair. Yes, s/he may need to work on diplomacy skills, but I think her/his overall intention was to admit that s/he was too harsh and in fact was judgmental him/herself. I saw it as a real moment of turning for questionmark. S/he owned up to her/his stuff.
I also want to say that I really appreciate the efforts you make to make this board civil, appropriate, and respectful. But i couldn't help but feel this was a bit hard and did not acknowledge the (what seemed to be) a sincere apology.
