Remeron dose raised from 15mg to 30mg

Posted by Squiggles on May 6, 2003, at 9:17:42

Hi,

At one week, the 15mg was just fine --
no insomnia, no depression, no anxiety;
the dr. just raised it to 30mg as that
is supposed to be the therapeutic dose?

Is this just something "done" from the books
or is it really true that Remeron has a paradoxical
effect of say MORE DOSE, LESS SIDE EFFECTS, such
as sleepiness, appetite increase, etc.

Curious - sounds very spurious to me, but
i don't know psychopharmcology and neurochemistry.

Any testimonials would be appreciated

It;s possible that i am wrong - yes i know
it's hard to believe but there is a possibility
that i do not know what i am talking about-
gasp! I searched Dr. Bob's collection of drs.'
reports on this drug Remeron, and yes indeed,
the higher the dose the lower the sedation and
presumably depression.

It's counter-intuitive, but i suppose there are
many examples of drugs like that; anyway, the bottom
line is - whichever dose feels best.

My aim is not to be right btw, really, honest LOL,
my aim is to avoid errors which can really screw
people up and make take up the anti-psychiatry
crusade.

It's a tricky business, but mostly because i
do not have a degree in neurochemistry and
neuropsychiatry.

Still would like to hear personal testimonials;

I was going to say what Charlie said. It's true that Remeron has less side effects for many people at a higher dose. But if it aint broke, don't fix it. Maybe you should let your doc know that you are doing ok at the current dose. You could see how things go, and then raise the dose if necessary. You should discuss it with your doc.
