Clonidine experiences...Ace needs advice big time.

Posted by ace on April 14, 2003, at 22:59:32

OK my friends.

I'm running out of options with Nardil...Lithium did no good, Pindolol made me depressed...In Australia I can't get Gabapentin, Klonopin for OCD/anxiety...I'm getting nervous. Because, sad to say, although Nardil is my love and is a depression killer, there is still too much OCD and derealization and phobic anxiety. In the holidays it was great for everything, but then I wasn't enetering phobic situations.

So cross your fingers for me with Clonidine.

Has anyone used it? I read it is good for OCD, anxiety, PTSD and ADHD. It is a little like Pindolol but not too much (Thank goodness).

Please Tell me all your experiences with it.

This is my last chance for Nardil...and I am very upset about this. But I can't live like this - ie being late for a chem class cause I'm standing outside with anxiety. But, in defense of my lovely Nardil, I used to be anxious all day mostly, not just in phobic situations.

PLEASE HELP LEGENDS

ACE,
Nardil, 90mg
Lithium, 1250mg (soon to go)
Xanax, 1mg PRN.

Ace, i'm sorry to hear about your difficulties. i've never tried clonidine, sorry, but i imagine it would only or at least primarily be beneficial for the physical components of OCD and anxiety, not the psychological ones.
May i ask... it previously sounded as though Nardil made you almost completely anxiety-free, but with this post you now seem to still have a good deal of anxiety (beyond just the fact that you were out of school and stuff). Is it not as effective now, or has it just been this way the whole time? Is Nardil that inadequate?
P.S., maybe a tiny dose of clomipramine would be a good augmentation?

Thanks for the reply dude,

During my holiday season Nardil was killing everything almost 100%. All except OCD - only 60%. I was euphoric during the holidays.

Believe me, I am a very happy person now due to the Nardil. It is brilliant. But the anxiety and derealization have become more pronounced since I started uni. But it has not pooped out. I still enjoy life greatly.

But, even the remaining anxiety is a killer. Last week I had to stay home instead of go out at night cause of it.

BUT, and this I must remember, it is nowhere near as bad pre-Nardil. For instance on my personalised mood charts, before Nardil, on average i was scoring the following...

1. Depression- 6/10
2. Phobic Anxiety/Derealization 7/10
3. OCD 7/10

And I had plenty of bad days where figures reached higher. On Nardil, however, averages are

1. Depression- 0/10
2. Phobic anxiety/derealization- 1/10
3. OCD- 4/10

And I had plenty of days where all (except OCD) were zero.

So you can see Nardil is great, but unfortunately the OCD is still hurting. At times quite bad.

And the anxiety, even though now a low score, is still disabling. I mean, if I score 1/10 for Phobic Anxiety/Derealization, that means one bad attack, which in turn means I probably would have had to stay home.

After Clonidine, if no result, Parnate is next.
Then clomipramine.

Unfortunately, out of all the TCAs, Anafranil is to NEVER be combined with an MAOI.

My only other option is to augment Zyprexa with Nardil - I'm torn about this, with TD and all. If I start a med that works I want to know I could be on it for years.

Anyhow, Let me know what you think!
And rest assured, Nardil will always have a special place in my heart.

Take Care, Questionmark!! (Don't know real name!)
Ace.

Oh, okay, i see. Thanks for the clarification.

"Unfortunately, out of all the TCAs, Anafranil is to NEVER be combined with an MAOI."
Haoh, that freaking sucks; i didn't know that.

i wish i knew what to tell you. Could a really small dose of Zyprexa augment well without any risk of EP SEs and TD? It really seems that the dose of AP they use is often too high. So maybe..
i dunno though. Hey good luck.

Thanks dude,

I'm considering 2.5mg Zyprexa, but if a drug works I wan't to be on it indefinately. This TD business really is a nuiscance, but we'll see.

BTW, what are you on? Is it Anafranil? If so, tell me as much about it as you can!

Thanks bro,
Ace. (Andrew)
