giving a pill to someone that doesnt need effexor

Posted by charliemac on April 15, 2003, at 0:21:30

i have a buddy that likes to experiment with meds, and i have told him over and over that i wont give him one. just for my curiosity sake, what would happen to this normal guy if he took one or 2 at 150mg.
anyone out there try this?

i need something to come back at him with, so i can tell him the repercussions.
and if anyone out there had a good experience with it, send that along also, but i will not tell him, i promise

What would one pill prove, given you have to be
on AD's for weeks to tell if they work ?

Most anti-depressants make very poor recreational drugs.
I'd just tell him that if he takes 150-300 mg, and has never taken effexor before, he's likely to experience a number of unpleasant effects - nausea, anxiety and nervousness, headaches, dizziness, dry mouth, sexual problems, sweating, diarreah or constipation, etc. and little if any pleasant effects - possibly some stimulation of the caffeine type, but drowsiness is a possibility also. If he still insists, let him learn the hard way.

Ask him what his intention is.

Tell him if he has a problem he wants to fix with a drug, then to discuss it with a doctor or psychiatrist.

If not, then you're not willing to subject a perfectly healthy brain to potentially harmful substance.

Tell your friend with this misguided desire that it makes you barfy and anxious. No fun.

In all likelyhood the only thing that would happen is he would get sick. Absolutely nauseatingly sick. He would probably experience stomach discomfort at it's worse. I know that some time back I tried increasing my dosage too fast, from 150mg-300mg, all I could think about was my stomach. There were, also, other side effects like tremors and severe anxiety. Most of these were masked by the nausea and stomach pain, though.

There is, also, the very real possibility of a toxic reaction to it. The next thing you know, there is the worry of him from having a toxic reaction turns into a reality and he ends up in the intensive care unit. The psychological and legal issues imposed on you would be unimaginable.

I would let your friend know how much of a idiot and a jerk he is being. He is neither taking into concern his or your well-being. I would let him know, if he is a real friend he will be sorry. Also, sounds like it's time for your friend to get substance abuse help.
