I've just been switched from Prozac (40mg) to Seroxat (20mg). I know that's the usual start dose for Seroxat in depression, but would think that if I am really meant to be switching to another kind of SSRI, it should be at a similar dose (ie 30-40mg)?

Hi,
yes actually you could, the usual dose for an adult is between 20-60mg, and prozac and seroxat(i believe) is chemical related, both are ssri´s. I know I have switched between ssri´s like that. But you should take that with your pdoc, do not try to self-medicate yourself!
keep on,

Sorry- should have steered away from trade names. The leaflet says its paroxetine.

Should have learnt by now to read *all* the messages before replying to one!
Thanks for the info.
I wouldnt normally tinker with my meds, but I am desperate to continue getting better over the next couple of weeks. I dont have a pdoc, just a GP (family doctor) who in our glorious NHS is overworked and wouldnt want to see me for at least a couple of weeks, unless I actually became suicidal. Particularly with the Easter holidays.
So I will certainly seek his advice when I see him. Its a bit of a sensitive issue as there was a mix up with their admin which led to me running out of Prozac completely for a few days- right before this particular bout of crippling anxiety/depression. So he wont be thrilled at me commenting on his prescribing! Meanwhile, taking one each of (prozac and paroxetine).
But absolutely agree that *shouldnt* do this sort of tinkering, and hope other posters have easier quick access to someone with the time and expertise. I should say he's been OK otherwise, and I did see him late on a busy Friday afternoon.
