Hello everyone!
Does anybody out there know if Risperdal or Seroquel is more effective for extreme fear? I feel like I'm going to fall apart or lose it or something. My doctor put me on Risperdal but I think it's made the fear worse before (at least in the beginning). I can't take Zyprexa because it makes me crave for food and overeating is already a huge problem for me because of the fear. I would also appreciate further info about your experiences with either one (Risperdal or Seroquel). -Tiina

Hi Tiina,
The critical thing to know about fear is whether it is psychotic or not. What exactly are you afraid of?
If your fear is not psychotic then the AP's might not help very much. If your fear is psychotic, however, the AP's might be extremely helpful.
There is really no way of telling what drug is most effective for a specific person. In clinical studies all the atypical antipsychotics (with the exception of clozapine) are pretty much equivalent for treating psychosis. My advice would be to keep trying the different drugs until you find one that works well.

Thank you for replying xjs7
I don't really know what psychotic fear is but I think mine is something like that. It's a fear that's always been there only now it's gotten way too strong. It's like a fear of my inner self falling apart. I have never been able to handle that feeling and have never been able to give in to it so there's a constant battle going on inside me. I've been on anti-psychotics (Risperdal) before when it was real bad and it was starting to work but they took me off of them because of a low white cell count (which turned out to be a natural quality for me)and now I wish I could sue the doctors for not putting me back on them! The last 10 months or so have been totally intolerable being only on an AD and thinking I have to overcome the fear on my own. I think Risperdal works for me but I'm concerned about its safety profile. I'm also taking 225mg of Effexor so it might be a bad coctail. Do you know anything about Risperdal's safety? Sorry this was so long. -Tiina
