I take 300mg of Lamictal and 5mg of Zyprexa for bipolar II. I was on 2.5mg Zyprexa for one month before moving on to 5mg. I got relief from one of the two drugs for about 5 days when I hit 275mg of the Lamictal and the 3rd week of being on the 5mg of Zyprexa. I don't know what drug was helping. I go to my psych on Monday. Has anyone had relief from Zyprexa on a 5mg dose and then have it stop working? I thought maybe raising the Lamictal to 300mg may prove sucessful, but it hasn't. Any Zyprexa or Lamictal sucess stories in tweaking doses would be appreciated.

Well, what do you mean by "relief"? Relief from what? What are your target symptoms you are trying to treat? Bipolar II does not usually involve psychosis, or severe mania. Why were you put on Zyprexa?

I too am bipolar. I am on Effexor 225 mg and 5 mg Zyprexa. I am in the same boat not knowing which I benefited from. But I feel the Zyprexa has helped. I have always been an insomniac and the Zyprexa helps me sleep (too much sometimes). Also I am much calmer. I have decided to stay on both. Just my 2 cents

i have to share xjs 7's opinion on zyprexa. having bp1 means i have had psychosis, so i was taking 20mg of zyprexa at one point. i know a lot of pdocs like using it as a mood stabilizer, but the risks of td and eps isn't worth it. anyway, my feelings are if you need something for anxiety symptoms, benzos are much more effective with little or no s/e. best of luck-judy

> TomYes, Tom, Zyprexa worked wonders for me as did Risperdal. However, Risperdal caused me to lactate and Zyprexa caused rapid weight gain. Now I take Seroquel(similar) which does not cause gain. These drugs help greatly with some depressions. MIMI

The reason the doc put me on the Zyprexa is because I have extreme paranoia and delusions which I think Zyprexa may help.

i guess it depends on the person...... i used to take high dosages of depakote and got annoying side effects (tremors, sedation) .. but i only take 2.5 mg of zyprexa and have better control of my mood with less side effects
but maybe i just got lucky?

ok, then, delusions, so it is being used as an a/p. sometimes the lower doses of a/p's appear to work better than higher ones- i know 2mgs of risperdal works better than 6 (w/o the nasty akathesia)- so maybe you can try the 2.5mg of zyprexa again? or did it stop working? btw, lamictal has been really helpful to a lot of people- so i kind of doubt that's the problem best of luck-judy
