Please reply with:
1) What AD didn't cause you to gain weight
2) What your exercise program and eating patterns were like when taking drug
3) Were you overweight from another med previously taken?
4) Did you include a second AD/stim or appetite suppressant/diet pill to help with weight loss?
Thank you so much for helping!! I know everyone is different and all drugs don't have the same affect on everyone, but I haven't heard of anyone NOT gaining weight and am of course still researching before I try something else. I really appreciate you input. Thanks

Took all these combined with Ritalin for ADD & none have had any effect on my weight:
Prozac (up to 40 mg/day)
Wellbutrin SR (300 mg/day)
Effexor (300 mg/day)
Lexapro (on it 3 weeks so far & may be losing a few pounds on it. No appetite.)Zyprexa & Depakote are the only drugs that have ever made me gain weight. Those did so fast & furious. Zyprexa - 20 lbs. in 3 mos because I ate all the time. Depakote 20 lbs. in 2 months because I ate all the time & did NOTHING!
Losing that weight has been soooooo hard with all the meds!

Prozac, Effexor, Zoloft, Celexa> 2) What your exercise program and eating patterns were like when taking drug
same as ever
> 3) Were you overweight from another med previously taken?
nope> 4) Did you include a second AD/stim or appetite suppressant/diet pill to help with weight loss?
sometimes, but the ADs seemed weight-neutral
>Lots of people don't gain weight. Paxil seems to be the worst offender among the SSRIs, and Zyprexa is notorious, but for the most part I think its kind of like other side effects--some people get sleepy, others don't.
I have wondered if people who already struggle with their weight were less prone to AD related weight gain than people who are naturally thin. Anybody want to weigh in on that baseless theory?

Not true in my case. On both Prozac and Zoloft, I lost weight intitially (especially the very first time I went on each) but then I gained it back and then some from carb cravings, especially for sugar. I also felt like food just stayed in my stomach forever, and that my whole digestive system and metabolism in general were slowed to a lethargic crawl.
I've posted elsewhere that magnesium glycinate supplementation has cured my depression but what was more surprising to me with a many-year major weight problem, was that it also lowered my appetite to normal and enabled me to quit my usual addictions (sugar, high fat, caffeine, wheat, processed foods in general) quickly and painlessly. I've lost 30+ lbs so far and it was never easier.

nope - i have no appetite with lexapro - i eat when im hungry and i get full very quickly. im also very sleepy so most of the time im too drowsy to even think about eating./

I always eat well but at times I was exercising regularly and at other times not. My weight doesn't change that much due to exercise changes...

> 3) Were you overweight from another med previously taken? Yes, actually. When I lost weight on Effexor, much of it was weight I had gained on Remeron. But I lost more than I had gained on Remeron.
