Hi all, well I got no sleep last night.
I am seeing my doc Friday and am going to ask her about Wellbutrin, Nardil, Trileptal, and Amblify.
But first, I need to know about the Trileptal, and Amblify.
Of course I can do a search but could anyone please tell me what they are used for?
Experiences?
Combos with other meds?
Just looking for personal experiences mostly and of course, a little info wouldn't hurt.
Thanks so much, I am going to be ready for my pdoc Friday with a lot of questions and a diary of what I have been feeling.
This isn't right.
Thanks again, kristen:-)
PS-I am a self-medicater and need to STOP it. I didn't take any Seroquel last night because I took 3 Tylenol 3's for a nasty neck-I couldn't turn my head to the left at all much less drive, or tilt it back to take my meds.
NO EXCUSES-I am a self-medicater and it needs to stop.
Please, I hope someone can help.

Hi - unfortunately, I can't tell you much except that it is ABILIFY (spelling) and I know someone who was taken off Zyprexa and put on Abilify because she hears things and has extreme paranoia. If I'm not mistaken, Abilify is the newest anti-pyschotic and has a very *good* side effects profile. I was impressed by what I read about it on the Internet, which I was doing for that friend of mine.

Thanks, what about Trileptal?? Have you heard anything good or bad about it?

Yes, I've heard a little about Trileptal because my pdoc was considering putting me on it! Apparently it is a *new and improved* version of Tegretol, which is a mood stablizer, analagous to how Lexapro is an new version of Celexa. They've altered the chemicals a little bit to make Trileptal more efficient than Tegretol, like they did with Lexapro/Celexa.
Anyway, my pdoc decided against trying me on Trileptal because I am allergic to Tegretol and he felt that since this is basically Tegretol with some chemical changes (at least that is the impression I got), I would probably be allergic to it as well.
So, you've asked about a mood stabilizer (Trileptal) and an anti-psychotic (Abilify), both of which are very new on the market and have very *good* side effect profiles because they are very targeted to specific brain receptors.
I hope this is of some help. I imagine you might get some better, more detailed info from others here. Good luck to you.

Thanks again, really appreciate it, and yes I hope I get some others' feedback too:-)

Well, let me put it this way - I heard that with Tegretol (which let's say is a *cousin* to Trileptal because they are chemically related) there is NO weight gain (or loss), like there can be weight gain on certain doses of Depakote, another mood stabilizer. So my GUESS and this is only a guess, is that there would be NO (or minimal) weight gain on Trileptal. You could probably do a search on "Trileptal weight" and see for sure.
And for what it's worth, there is no gain with Abilify - that is one of it's improvements of predecessor Zyprexa! There can be MAJOR weight gain with Zyprexa. I took it for a short while and my appetite and carbo cravings soared. I had to exert extreme willpower not to give in, but I've met people who gained like 25-30 pounds on Zyprexa, I'm not kidding!

From what I have gathered through posts, you will gain weight on Abilify if you are in the norm. weight range. I gained 10 pounds on it and constantly crave sugar. People who are overwt to start may lose weight on Abilify. You can't rely on the drug companies to tell you the real facts.

Hi Krissy
Interesting you are mentioning 2 meds which are in our household. My daughter is back on Abilify after being taken off of it yesterday.I take Trileptal myself because I have periphial neuropathy (nerve damage in my feet). So far I have had no side effects for it. I take a total of 600mgs a day. I am also on neurontin which ny neurologist is wearning me off.
I wasn't award that they use both meds together sometimes for side effects of Abilify. Do know my daughter's new psdoc wants to use depakote to make her less agitated. But since I am finding out that trileptal can also be used maybe that would work for her instead of depakote.
Krissy I can unfortunately tell you how both of these meds together well work for you but I know for myself I have no problems with trileptal. Abilify is a wonderful med so give them both a try.
This is the end of the thread.
