Lithium augmentation -I'm worse- onset of action?

Posted by ace on March 23, 2003, at 19:35:11

At the moment Lithium has made my phobic anxiety OCD and derealization worse. This is cool, bacause Nardil did the same the first week or two and turned out to be a life saver. Tommorrow I would have been on Litium for 1 weeks (2 days 250mg, 5 days 500mg). When is it going to 'turn around' and start working. I have not much doubt it will work but I'm getting inpatient.

I've read onset of action for augmentation is any where between 48hrs - 2/3 weeks.

How long do you think??

Cheers,

Ace.

are you using lithobid? This is the slow release form. I cannot take lithium carbonate, but do well on lithobid. That may be an option for you. I do not remember what it felt like since I was so bad off that any relief was better than the depression.

yes, lithobid is slow release, it is the only lithium I can tolerate. I actually reduced my TCA in half due to being way above the theraputic level for me and added lithium at the same time. I felt better in a few days, but I think it was more due to the lower TCA dose. Give it some time, but I suggest writing down any Side Effects and discussing with your doctor. Sometimes I still get spacey after my lithium dose but not all of the time. Stuff is very quirky in my opinion. take care

Hey John,
Can you describe the feeling that the lithium carb gives you? I took it and it helped after two weeks and then when the doc raised it to 1200mg a day I had an extremely uncomfortable agitated feeling. Lowering the dose didn't help. Maybe the other forms of lithium might be a different story. What does the lithium carb do to you?

When I first started Litho Carb I did OK. The doctor decided the slow release was better and switched me. Well, after I lost my insurance I tried to go back to litho carb. I felt somewhat agitated, but the biggest problem was a "spacey" feeling I got late in the day. I also felt more mentally dulled. The spacey feeling is what is meds do to me the most. The best definition I have ever gotten has been a "sponge brain" feeling. I think the reaction to lithium, in the SE department are pretty universal, but the degree is different. I have even had that feeling after taking my lithobid, but it doesn't last for very long. Hope this helps. I would strongly suggest lithobid if lithium carbonate is not going well, but give it a fair try.
good luck
