Hi all, Just wanted to continue my posts on the Lamictal. Now, I know last week I posted about increasing my dose of Lamictal to 75mg from 50mg, and not good results. But, last night, I increased it and wow! I feel great this morning? Do those of you on Lamictal remember how gradually you increased your dosages of Lamictal????
I woke up less depressed, I slept well, and no nightmares. I feel less foggy. I hope my brain is finally accepting the Lamictal at 75mg.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
and good one. Hope you keep tolerating it.
This just shows up the psychological aspect of stating/upping meds. Often people can upp a dose and get a bad headacke or something and blame it on the meds, when actually it had nothing to do with them. Then they can get worked up over what they perceive the drug is doing to them and create anxiety and other hoirrible symptoms in the process.I'm not saying this has happened to you, I couldn't possibly know, however I know I'm guilty of doing this in the past as are many others.
hope it stays ok

-----------------------------------Kristen,
Yeah but your Lamictal dosage was not the only change that you made yesterday. You also took your 2mg of Klonopin and 100mg Seroquel during the day instead of the usual bedtime dosing.
How do you know that the "less foggy" feeling you had earlier today was due to the increase in Lamictal or due to the other changes that you made? The point I'm trying to make is that when we change more than one medication at a time, it becomes VERY difficult to draw cause-and-effect conclusions.
What instructions did your pdoc give you regarding the Lamictal dosage?

Hi Ron, I hear you. I was thinking the same thing about whether my feelings might have been related to the dosages I took of Seroquel and Klonopin in the day yesterday. That makes some sense-I haven't had to take meds in the day for about a year and I have no PRN's -I just don't need them, but yesterday I felt that I did. Right now-my pdoc gave me 50mg Lamictal for 4 weeks-but can't I talk to her about increasing it to 75mg? Or do you think I should take seroquel and/or Lamictal as prn in the day? I would really appreciate your feedback Ron on this. What you say here, I was thinking today, in fact, please get back to me.
Thanks so much!
Kristen

Sure you can talk to your pdoc about increasing the dose, but it might be in your best interest to wait until she actually approves the increase before taking it upon yourself to change the dose. She may have good reasons for wanting to ramp the Lamictal up slowly.
>Or do you think I should take seroquel and/or Lamictal as prn in the day?
I recommend taking all of your meds strictly as directed by your pdoc. At your next appointment you can talk to her regarding possible changes. If you continue to monkey with your meds on your own, it will make it more difficult for your pdoc to determine the best course of action.
When is your next appointment? If I were you, I'd definitely tell her about your continued mood swings. I have my own opinion regarding the med cocktail that might best benefit you, but I’ll hold my tongue.

Hi Ron,
Last night, I took the 50mg of Lamictal and will continue-(I promise-not just for me but you too! lol) until I see my pdoc on the 28th of this month. I have to say, I am a little leary about her experience with Lamictal-as when I told her I was on it one time and was doing well for me, she asked" what is it" *sigh* I had a pdoc a while back who seemed to be way more knowledgeable about Lamictal-thus feeling safer when he prescribed it to me. I guess I will see what my now pdoc says when I see her regarding the Lamictal.
No, don't hold your tongue-please relay your thought of a med cocktail that would help me. I know you said Lithium was part of it, anything else, please tell me, that way I can bring it up to my pdoc when I see her, run it by her, and see what she thinks. You might be pleasantly surprised if you don't "hold your tongue"
Let me know, Thanks, Kristen

just thought i'd jump in on my lam dosage increase saga. i started at 25 and stayed on that for 3 weeks. then we tried to move to 50 and i got these small red blotches on my chest and neck. i cut the 25 in half and took 37.5 for another 2 weeks. then i went up to 50. mind you, at this point i was cycling, unbelievably irritable and just plain miserable. after another 3 weeks we went to 75. i got more red spots at this point so i decreased by 12.5 for a week, then went back to 75 and no rash so we went to 100. another three weeks 100. 2 weeks later 150 and another 2 weeks 200. after 100 it was really easy to increase, at least it was for me. i feel great now and i know the lamictal is working. it's been a lifesaver, but those first few months were REALLY hard.
kind regards

Hi, thank you for sharing this. I'm so glad that you feel great now and know the Lamictal is working for you. I'm hangin in and see my pdoc a week from today. The first week when I started back on Lamictal, I did pretty good, but was having a bad time this third week. I know I definately need this med, as it works well for me too, so I am not giving up. I think I need to talk to my doc about the possible increase in Lamictal when I see her though, because once I get past this 50mg, I'm hoping an increase will do more good.
Please wish me luck!
All the best, Kristen
