How to treat mania caused by Nardil?

Posted by DavidLA on March 10, 2003, at 9:58:06

I feel as if I am often on the edge of mania on the Nadil dosage I find therapeutic for depression & SP. If I lower my Nardil dosage to control these feelings, my mood falls off noticeably.

I've tried various dosages of Depakote, and although that reduces my manic feelings somewhat, it also reduces the effectiveness of Nardil on my depression.

What meds I can take with Nardil to control these manic feelings?

TIA.

Hi David,

Have you considered a slow-release lithium medication add-on?

Hi.

There are a couple of things.

Zyprexa
Klonopin
Lithium w/wo Klonopin
Neurontin

These should also help with SP

I found lowering the dose of nardil by one tablet then add lamictal did the trick ... stops those borderline hypomanic feeling that nardil can induce and give a nice stable overall feeling. The lamictal will give back any antidepressant effect lost by decreasing the dose of nardil without the mania.

Lots of luck,

Jumpy
