I don't know if being on one chemical for constipation for a long period of time is good Ross. I also wouldn't get *too* obsessed with 'regularity', as I found out a few years ago.(I use opiates often, which are also constipating.) There is a LOT of conflicting information out there on this topic, and often the people who strongly promote 'regularity' are also trying to sell something. I know, all the health guru's seem to say we gotta have 3 bowel movements a day or we will die of colon (or whatever) cancer. Again, I often suspect an ulterior motive.

Otherwise, a few stand-by's that may work just as well:

-Regular-daily Prune/prune-juice (go slow with this)
-Regular magnesium supplements
-Munch on some dried fruits (like the yummy ones you can get at the health food stores.)

Any/all of these will bring on a more regular bowel movement pattern.
Of course the usual adding a bit of exercise and more water to your day is also going to help. I know, easier said then done. Take it easy...

Best,
Jay

I don't have any experience with Miralax, but unfortunately do with constipation.
I take Metamucil in the evening (they just came out with it in capsule form!) - it can cause some bloating, so start with a small amount at first. Also, oatmeal is a soluable fiber, which helps in keeping things moving. I use the instant microwave ones - lots of good flavors available.
In the morning I have a light breakfast and hot tea, which helps, too.

Yes, for eight months, no problem, it works. My doctor is not concerned about long term usage. It has been a miracle for me. Sure hope it continues to work.
