Hi ACE- I agree. I was diagnosed with OCD (the ruminating, obsessing thoughts more) and was first tried on Anafranil-gained weight but it helped, then on Luvox-couldn't take the side effects-(man I feel like a guinea pig!)
IMHO LUVOX has been the #1 med to help treat OCD.
But, I do find that Effexor helps me but you went off it.
Did this help?
Good luck:-)
Kristen

BOY KRISSY, I AM SOooooo INTERESTED IN YOUR ANAFRANIL EXPERIENCE - TELL ME ALL!
DOSE,
DURATION,
S/EFFECTS,
THERAPEUTIC RESPONSE,
TITRATION,
etc etcLUVOX WAS DEFINATELY BETTER?
MY OCD IS WIERD. I FIRST HAVE THSI THOUGHT WHICH SAYS 'IF YOU DO THIS OR THAT IT IS GOING TO BED 'BAD' AND ON YOUR MIND REST OF LIFE. THEN THIS OTHER THOUGHT TRIE'S TO SAY 'YES' TO THE 'BAD' THOUGHT. I RESIST THIS OTHER 'YES' THOUGHT AND HAVE TO THINK A 'GOOD'THOUGHT OVER THE TOP OF THE BAD ONE. IF A 'BAD THOUGHT' MANAGES TO 'GET IN' I RUMINATE ABOUT IT - SOMETIMES FOR HOURS.
THEN OF COURSE, I RUMINATE WITHOUT THE ABOVE PROCESS - ON INFINITY, ON SPECIFIC SUBJECTS, ON PARTS OF MY BODY (ONLY WHEN YOUNGER) ETC
CRAZY STUFF!
THE NARDIL HAS MAD THE 'YES' PROCESS ABOVE QUITER
ACTUALLY I'M GOING TO DO A POST ON THIS NOW FOR MED SUGGETIONS TO AUGMENT.
BTW, NARDIL FOR YOUR CONFIDENCE WOULD BE GREAT. \I HAVE SOCIAL PHOBIA (MODERATE) - I COULDN'T EAT IN FRONT OF PEOPLE AND WAS S/CONSCIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING FLAYMBOYANY I WORE - VERY, VERY, S/CONSCIOUS.
NOW, I COULD EAT A SLOPPY MEAL IN FRONT OF A THOUSAND PEOPLE AND I WALK AROUND WITH NO TOP ON DIED HAIR AND ANY CRAZY CLOTHES I FEEL LIKE WEARING.YOU SOUND LIKE GOOD CANDIDATE. MORE INFO SOON YOU SWEET KID!
LOVE,

hiya:-)
well, this was back in 1995-soo I will try to remember for you k. I was on the lowest dose of Anafranil, an old med, for about a year. I had side effects of only sleepiness and like I said a lot weight gain. Anafranil did nothing to help me-because I was way more depressed then having OCD tendencies(although I had some or my pdoc wouldn't have put me on it) I think the doc at the time was just experimenting and understandably so, since I had never been on an AD before. For the most part, as far as titration, I remember her slowly weaning me off of Anafranil for about 2 weeks then completely took me off. I am sorry I don't remember the doasage-I was way out of it then.
As far as Luvox-yes it helped me more but YMMV, and IMHO I think, like I said, Luvox is a wonderful med for OCD-I know plenty who it has worked miracles on! I personally just couldn't take the side effects of soreness all over and the bloating I experienced.
You definately sound like you have the "ruminating thoughts"- I know it may be "weird" and definately uncomfortable, but after all, it's OCD.
As for Nardil-I have never been diagnosed with SP, I'm really outgoing and not too afraid of people, my feelings of insecurity stem more from a weight gain-(something I have not been used to my whole life) that has occcurred in the last 10 years:-( I am super doooper glad that Nardil works for your SP though!
Thanks ACE - NARDIL WHORE, CHAMP...YEP IKNOW THE DRILL, did this help?
Keep me posted:-)Keep feelin good!

Used alone, no bipolar, maybe some psychotic features, and lasted several days, about the same as the antidepressant effects I got from anafranil + li. Someone suggested the reason the risperdal stopped working was that I went up to to high a dose.
