I want to come off Effexor

Posted by babak on March 1, 2003, at 14:50:55

Hi

I am going to see a new pdoc in two weeks and I want to come off Effexor because ever since I started on it I have totally lost my libido. Initially I didn't notice it. But after about a year, one day after having sex I asked myself did I enjoy this? In fact, have I enjoyed sex in a long time? The answer was a definite no. Ever since I haven't thought about sex. Again initially I thought: that's OK if you don't want sex then don't have sex. But now it is over two years and I still don't feel like having sex. It is starting to get a bit serious. I am sure it is Effexor because it started soon after going on the damn thing. My sister too is on Effexor and I discussed it with her and she said that she felt the same. We have tried coming off it several times by reducing the dosage gradually. But as soon as I go below 75 and my sister below 50 we start having these zapping sensations in our heads. As well as a major increase in depression and other symptoms. I have tried replacing it with Remeron but to no avail.

What other strategies are there? I want to know a few so I can talk it over with my new doctor. Hopefully it will work for my sister as well.

Please help.

Try this Thread

I should also add that I went onto a low does of Prozac (10mg) during the entire process which helps with the seratonin withdrawal symptoms.

Good luck
