I took this amount 3 nights ago fue to Pericatin causing a major relapse in my sx (serotonin antagonist ie, now I DEFINATELY know serotonin plays huge part in my d/o)
I was in great fright, but woke up hunky dory, happy as larry again - the Periactin action gone, Nardil action now uninterrupted.
But three days later I have light head when turning quickly, a little dizzy, and terrible heartburn (indigestion) in sleep. Due you think this is attributable to the Val (30mg in the space of 20mins is an overdose, right)
I forget the half-life of Val. I know it's long. Can someone please tell me exactly what it is and shouldn't be out of system by now?
Also, the above symptoms....attributable to val O/D???

In reply to 30mg Valium - O/D sx?.... how long out of system?, posted by ace on February 27, 2003, at 20:00:28
I believe the half-life of diazepam is pretty broad, 20-200 hours. As far as 30mg being an overdose? Nah, don't think so. According to most benzo equivalency charts (including the one given to me by my therapist), 30mg Valium is roughly equivalent to 3mg Xanax, 1.5mg Klonopin... hardly anything to be concerned about. I know several people who take single doses of 30mg+ of diazepam (prescribed). The symptoms you listed could very well be attributable to the higher dose. Once again, nothing to worry about.

HI Ace
You've been a bad boy but rest easy. 30mg is of Valium is by no stretch of the imagination an amount to overdose on. The amount to overdose on is SUBSTANTIALLY higher than 30mg. I do know the amount required to overdose on but I will NOT be providing anyone with that information on this site. Other than the fact that Dr Bob will be mightily displeased with me I am not personally interested in bringing this information to anyones attention.
About a year ago I took 40mg of Valium in one night over a half hour period with no ill effects. I must add that I did this against my Pdoc's advice and would not recommend that anyone take 30 or 40mg of Valium over such a short period unless directed to do so by their doc. I now generally will only take my meds as recommended by my doc but I must add that I am a lot more stable than I was a year ago. My Pdoc also has trust in me to regulate the doseages of my meds within certain limits on my own as I have demonstrated to him that I have built up quite an in depth knowledge about the drugs I take. I have even got him so far that he is willing to listen to my suggestions for any changes in my meds or in the doseages of my meds.
The only thing you should be careful of is that if you are not used to Valium, 30mg over such a short period can cause pretty strong drowsiness and dizziness so I would NOT drive after taking such a dose. Other than the above I hope my info has put your mind at rest a little.
See ya you Nardil lover. Like I told you in a previous post I am happy with my current combo of meds but I think that my Pdoc will be open to a Nardil trial if my current combo "poops out" on me.....especiallly considering that my primary diagnosis is social anxiety.
However I must admit to not knowing what Periactin is :). I've never heard of it so I can't make any comment on it!
See ya later Ace
regards
bluedogBy the way in answer to another question of yours I live quite a way to the west of Sydney.
