Does anyone know what happens if you go over the recommended 0.45mg hypericum 3 times a day? Can you O.D. ?

In some of the European clinical studies they used 2700mg doses (nine 300mg pills a day instead of the usual three a day). So yes, it has and can be done.

One of the warnings at high doses is skin sensitivity to sun. This is not common, but does happen from time to time. It has mostly been observed with cows grazing on wild SJW and consuming amounts (pound for pound) far greater than anything we could possibly consume. But it is something to be aware of.

The hypericum content, according to the most recent clinical studies, is not the primary active ingredient in SJW. The active ingredient is believed to be hyperforin. I'm sure hypericum and other ingredients play a role, but researchers believe hyperforin is the heavy hitter. That's because they discovered that SJW with very little hyperforin content had no therapeutic value compared to SJW with high hyperforin content, hypericum remaining equal. What you want is a brand of SJW that specifies clearly that it has a hyperforin content of 3% to 5%. If it doesn't specify hyperforin content, then you have no idea of what you are actually consuming.

Hope this is helpful in some way.

The incidence of side effects would increase, but so would the therapeutic effect.

>Can you O.D. ?

Simply put, no. There has never been a report in the literature of SJW overdose, and doses exceeding 20,000 mg/day have not produced overdose symptoms.

Thanks for that info!!
