movement problems

Posted by linkadge on February 23, 2003, at 15:21:54

I dropped Celexa (10 mg) about a month ago.
I have been taking Lithium 900mg and fish oil
(1g of EPA)

I have been experencing ballance problems,
I move between heavy and light. My body seems
to move back and forth when I sit. It
doesn't seem to be my controll (I can keep perfectly still) but rather my perception of
movement is completely messed up. The ground will seem to drop out from beneith me , or it will seem like someone is pushing me.

I'm still coping, but am wondering if I am
lingering on mania. ? celexa withrdrawl?
lithium, fish oil interactig ? any ideas?

Thanks
Linkadge

Hi Linkadge:

The movement disorders you are experiencing are very likely to be a result of the Celexa withdrawal. That back and forth sensation while you are perfectly still is something I have experienced when I have either weaned myself onto or off of ssris. It felt like some kind of inner ear problem and it seemed like I was lurching at times (like the floor was dropping out from underneath me, etc. ). Luckily it does go away but it took between 1-2 months for that to happen for me. Best advice: ride it out for a couple of weeks and if it's still there, ask your doc to check for other causes.
I should also say, somewhat sheepishly since I am an ex-smoker and loathe to recommend such a thing, but if you do smoke, having a cigarette does cut some of the woozy feelings...... Don't know the biochemical explanation for that, however!

I had that experience with Remeron (a feeling that my body was "following" me by just a split second). I also feel like that when my blood pressure is a little low (if the diastolic number goes below 120). Also felt like that a little with my recent Trileptal trial. You could check your resting BP when this thing seems to occur the most and see what it is. Lithium affects electrolytes that might be contributing. Try some Gatorade (get some extra sodium/potassium in ya).
