Is anybody using antipsychotics for an anxiety/ocd problem?
Do the benifits far outweigh the risks (ie. EPS)?
Ace.

Hi Ace!
I take 400mg of Seroquel (all at bedtime) and it has done wonders for my anxiety. It has also stabilized my mood better than any other mood stabilizer, and it regulates my sleep wonderfully. Best of all, I don't have any side effects. I can't comment on OCD, but it's definitely worth a shot for the anxiety.
Best of luck!
Dane =)

Ace- I take risperdal (2 mg) to augment Celexa (60 mg) for ocd and anxiety. The stuff works amazingly well, it's made me feel the best I've ever felt mentally but I've gained a lot of weight (60 pounds- I've lost 12 of the 60 so far and am working at losing the rest). However, from what I understand weight gain that is that extreme doesn't happen to everyone. Gaining 60 pounds was a bummer but it beats obsessing like I was. The risperdal works so well that it has completely taken away my neck pain (which was due to anxiety). I had severe neck pain for 12 years- saw a chiropractor regularly which only helped minimally. The risperdal relieves my anxiety and obsessions and I have no EPS. I've decided not to worry about TD and I have no regrets about taking the risperdal. I may be naive and eat my words later, but that's how I feel now. It has given me immense relief. Be well, babs

What were your symptoms of anxiety? Did you have panic or just straight anxiety or both? Physical symptoms?

I'd say it was straight anxiety- mine usually manifests itself in my stomach and muscle tension. Years ago I had panic attacks that accompanied my first depression but those had subsided before I started taking the risperdal. It was strange- I went from panic attacks to obsessions. My anxiety has this uncanny ability to morph!

When I was first put on an antipsychotic agent, I was mostly anxiety-free for six months. Then I slowly became anxious again. Now, despite being on a medium-high dose of Geodon, and an SSRI, I am very anxious almost all the time. So, AP's are definitely not an effective treatment for my anxiety. An AP may be worth trying though--you might react differently. I hope this helps.
