Antabuse on ADs?

Posted by Katia on February 20, 2003, at 23:57:31

Anyone have any experience with the alcohol treatment Antabuse? I'm going on it tomorrow combined with Zoloft up to 100mg as of today and going into my fifth week on it. I'm not a full blown raving alcoholic, but work in an environment that always has alcohol around and I'd like to be in a place to not be able to accept one. I really need to heal from this depression and drinking for me as been hindering my healing and growth. I'm in therapy as well doing great work. This is the first time in my 32yrs. that I've been on ADs starting this summer with Celexa, then Effexor, then now Zoloft. Any sharing of experiences with this topic would be appreciated.

Like everything else, it's best if you go
to the primary sources online...

go to google.com, type in "zofan" and "alcohol withdrawl". It'll come up with articles.

Basically, it's been found that Zofran may make alcoholics not crave alcohol.

Antabuse works, it's just a question of whether one likes the way it works-- it makes you fear wanting to take alcohol because you'll feel miserable if you do. The problem is, it only works if you take it...

thanks (nm)
