MAOI + TRAMADOL -- ANYONE heard of this combo?

Posted by ace on February 19, 2003, at 23:32:50

Anyone heard of taking an MAOI and Tramadol concurrently? Once again, it's containdicated in the literature (I think) but so are a lot of safe combos.

Ace.
Nardil, 90mg.

I think anything is really possible, depending on the person, but generally, I have only read negative things about combining Tramadol with Phenelzine.

FWIW, there are many reports of tramadol/SSRI induced serotonin syndrome. Im guessing the risk would be at least the same with a MAOI.

I've been taking Tramadol for 3 or 4 years with Nardil...daily for the last 6 months. I may be taking some sort of risk though, in favor of some pain relief. Most of the time I do fine; it does cause euphoria that I didn't experience when I was off the Nardil for 3 months. Also there have been several times (recently, with my increased intake) where I felt I was having a more serious reaction making it a little difficult to breathe, and feeling like my throat was closing up. Oddly though, this has occurred at the same dosage I have taken for a long time.

Anyone know if it is okay to stop tramadol and start seleginine without a washout period?
