when to give up on nardil

Posted by matt66 on February 15, 2003, at 6:58:07

I've been on nardil 90mg for two weeks and am getting frustrated. I said I'd give myself six weeks on it, but the first time it worked (like four years ago), it kicked in practically overnight. Now, rather than being neutral, I think it could be making me worse. I want to give it time, but I'm not seeing any positive results whatsoever (other than insomnia and sexual dysfuunction). should I stick with it or move on?

When it worked the first time why did you quit it.

From what I've heard, Nardil is about the only AD which doesn't immediately raise the neurotransmitters. It needs to get to a certain level so that it can effectivly inhibit MAO which in turn inhibits the breakdown of Ser/Nor/Dop etc.

SSRI's raise serotonin up to 300% upon first dosing. Personally I would give it another 2 weeks. 2 weeks seems like a bit too short trial, I am a firm believer in the one month rule.

If you do choose to continue waiting, try to acumulate an hour of exercise a day. (In one way
shape/form or another)

Otherwise I wish you the best of luck

2 weeks is not enough - it took me a little over 4 weeks to feel any effect. Do not give up yet. Give it atleast 6 weeks... it will be worth it!

Six weeks is best. Some have had great response to Nardil but it took six weeks to work.

It could be making you worse? In my opinion this is a good predictor for success with Nardil.
Like cosis said 2 weeks is nowhere near enough. Patience, Patience! Iv'e read of it taken a full 10 weeks in some cases. But boy was it worth it.13-14 weeks for OCD on high doses.

It doesn't matter about the past. You are different now. Don't give in! Keep in touch with us Nardil freaks when you feel as if giving up! DON'T GIVE UP! Give it AT LEAST 6 weeks and then contact if still no onset of action.

Ace,
Nardil, 90mg.

I have SP , I cant talk with people , Im even afraid to buy my medicines at the pharmacy . Ace told me that your case was very similar.
Can you explain me , what have been your problem?
Is Nardil the only medicine that has been helpful?
what others medicines have you tried ??
Im thinking to try Nardil for my SP and depresion
What about the diet and the sexual disfunction?
Hope you can help me

Ditto.

If one has been severely depressed for a long time, it can take longer to see improvements, and the rate of improvement can be very gradual. A full remission can still be achieved, however. If by the end of your fourth week at 90mg you should receive any improvement at all, I would recommend continuing a few more weeks.

Hi there,

You sounds similar to my problems. They mostly included going to stores, malls, out in public places, etc. I had a hard time talking to people also. I would usually laugh everything off and not have anything to respond with if someone talked to me. I always had the impression people were staring at me which would cause me to sweat, heart pound, and really anxious. I decided to finally see a doctor. He gave me the option to try Paxil, but recommended Nardil which he said was the best medicine for social anxiety. He explained the diet I had to stay on and I chose to use it. It kicked in about 4 weeks and worked great. I rarely feel anxious anymore in social situations. I don't mind going out in public and my mood is overall better. It also helped the depression that goes w/ social anxiety.

Nardil is the only medicine I have used.

The diet does not bother me much honestly. I haven't ran into any hypertensive situations. I pretty much eat whatever I want still. No sexual problems were frustrated. I couldn't orgasm for 4 months. It was definately hard to go through that but it did come back and I can now orgasm.

Good luck,
Nick
