Ive been reading a lot of stuff in this site about
nardil , that is making me wanting to try this dug. I dont know is nardil would help me ,but maybe I should try . But I dont know if this is the right moment. I was on Zoloft and my fear was
less severe but not enough to have a normal life , now Im been on Effexor xr for 15 days(75mgs) and everything is the same ,I cant have a normal life yet. For me , having a normal life is to have friends , to have girlfriends (I dont have ,Im a very lonely person).Im even afraid to buy my medicines at the pharmacy.Do you think is time to Nardil? Im also depresed.
What would you recomend me? Nardil? or others drugs first????
Thank you for all your responsesTepiaca

I definately recommend Nardil, you sound like me when I started about being afraid to go to stores.
Did you talk to your doc about it?

Many of us on this site have found great benefit from using an MAOI. Although, it has to be said, there are also many who have not experienced the same degree, or any degree, of relief from the same drugs.
Those of us who have gained benefit sing the praises of the drug so loudly that we drown out any alternative views because we are so relieved to be feeling differently.
Take care to discuss how you feel with your doctor before emarking on an MAOI to ensure that it is an appropraite drug for your personal circumstances.
Ace will probably think I'm being too cautious, and I know doctors don't always know best, but those of us who are devotees of MAOI medication have to remember it isn't always the perfect drug for eveyone.
Sorry Ace, but good luck Tepiaca.

I wish I had tried Nardil sooner, rather than wasting time with so many medicines that brought little or no relief. Right now I don't have what it takes to go through an uncomfortable "trial" (and Nardil is uncomfortable for me), but I certainly have before, and the MAOI's (particularly Nardil) seem to be so worth it when you get to the other side. I don't know your history, and reactions to meds of course, and maybe effexor will bring great relief to you if you give it a while longer (I guess you should read some effexor theads to see how long it might take). But if it doesn't, I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying different meds in the same class. Augmentation works for some, atypical anti depressants for others. Nardil sure is touted as helping social phobia, though. You can't really lose by trying it, you'll just find out it doesn't work for you, or your life will get miraculously better! At least you know it's out there for you when you want it. I know how it feels to be depressed, fearful and lonely. I hope you feel better soon.

KaraLynne,
Have you quit trying Nardil because you don't have the energy for a trial?

The diet is not that bad, and hypertensive crisis are rare...

Hi Jack,
Yes, sorry to say, for the time being I have quit it. I went through such a harrowing adjustment period last year to Pamelor-- it finally started to work and I had to stop taking it due to tachycardia. But I went through a couple of months of feeling so awful, physically and emotionally, and I just don't have it in me right now to go through feeling sick. I see my doctor next week; we've talked about trying Cymbalta as soon as it comes out, and I will talk to him more about Nardil. If nothing else works and I feel a little stronger in the future I might try it again. I still think it sounds like a miracle med for some people, and I wouldn't want to discourage you or anyone else from trying it.

This may sound crazy and a little optimistic, but i truly believe most people (the vast majority) of people who don't get the Nardil brilliance pull out too quickly due to s/effects and onset of action. For example, one fellow needed 10 weeks on high dose before it killed his depression. The same guy need an extra 3 weeks before it abolished -- and I mean abolished - his OCD. Then it was the best God send for him ever. You must admit, not many people would hang out that long. It took 6 weeks for me to feel substantial improvement -- 4 of those weeks on 60mg. Most people also forget -- and I try hard to remind them -- that once the dose is ramped up it then takes additional time for the higher dose to kick in. For example, even if you have been on 60mg for 12 weeks, raising it to 90mg won't have instant effect. It may take 4/5/6/ weeks for the 90mg dose to kick in.
> Those of us who have gained benefit sing the praises of the drug so loudly that we drown out any alternative views because we are so relieved to be feeling differently.Or is it because SSRIs suck, and for the VAST majority they provide only minimal or moderate relief? Most people on MAOIs have been through the whole SSRI gamut. And I have hardly ever, and I mean HARDLY, seen anywhere nere the sort of responses from SSRIs as from MAOIs. And I have done A LOT of research, at uni, on the net, in books etc etc.
