I am the same way. Perhaps our problem is a central serotonin deficit or simply a dependence on the SSRI's after many years of use.

The placebo effect can be a powerful thing, maybe its psychological? Either way it doesn't matter so long as it helps. Take care

Hi,

The first time I took Celexa it worked after a week. The second time (after stopping for months) it only took 2 days. I guess it is different with every individual.

Kari.

I've noticed what I might consider a placebo effect the very first times I took Paxil and Luvox... funny thing was, those were the ONLY meds (benzos aside) that helped me out significantly with my SP. Kinda spooky-- I was just represcribed Luvox for the first time in years yesterday, and with the first 100mg dose I began to feel a *huge* weight being lifted from me. I went out with friends, socialized in clubs (though I *hate* clubs with a passion)... is *this* "normal"?

Or mania?

Mania?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the whole concept of mania is being stretched beyond recognition. I hear people on this board describe mania as being full of energy and what I consider normal behaviour.

I have meet only 2 people with full-blown mania, one was trying to grab peoples crotch, and the other took his family hostage. There was no question that these 2 were in a maniac stage.

I guess this is why I am getting confused about the whole mania thing. Having seen these 2 people in action and hearing about others I know that have mania and blow their entire life saving in a day, I would think there would be no question as to being maniac or not?

Agitation, euphoria, perhaps hypo-manic symptoms but like stated Jaynee stated well, mania is more.

Before being on mood stabilizers when manic, I would be calling people I haven’t talked to in years at three am just to 'catch up,”, money was spent wildly, promiscuous in behavior (which is very odd for me), being up for days on end ( and not feel the slightest bit sleepy) working on papers for school only to give them to profs and be told the work was great and extensive but not the topic I suggested writing about in class. Usually they were just my wild babblings and opinions.

Luckily, the topics I wrote were just tangents and I would usually be able to get them accepted and graded for content and did well.

Relax, Michael Ann, one's thinking with mania is just so off, really off. You seem smart and informed enough on things to realize mania if it really struck you, I think. If you are interested, though, do you know of DSM 5--the diagnostic and statistical Manuel that pdocs use as their reference? I'm sure it’s in the med section of local bookstore chain--Barnes and Noble here, or the library of any school with a med program. I have one from when I was still a social worker instead of needing one. I still find it a great read, anyways....lol. You can self- diagnosis with it or diagnose friends, family, your doc, even strangers. In fact, while thinking about it, I guess I recommend it to all. heheheh

A new self scoring Bipolar Spectrum Scale

Hey Ame,

Here is a new self scoring bipolar test ... specifically designed to pick up "bipolar II/bipolar spectrum" patients. I thought the test looked reasonable.

Good luck,

Thanks for the post J. I found that I definitely fit into the spectrum somewhere. I'd hate to take anything to dampen hypomania though. Michael73

I'll have to do that bipolar spectrum scoring test too.
When I started Prozac it worked really fast. Taking it for OCD,a dn they say placebo is hard to achieve with OCD. It really made a huge difference within less than a week!
The thing is, I have had other things makje a difference too, usually something I became enthusiastic about, like going to live in a different country or some research project or whatever.
But Prozac was AMAZING, after years of bad anxiety and compulsions I just felt freed.
