Hello Everyone,
I took AD Moclobemide (Aurorix/Manerix) for about 5-6 weeks and had to quit it.
I'm wondering if anyone else who has taken this drug experienced such a horribly negative outcome as mine. I'm not talking about minor side effects like headache. I'm talking about feeling as if your life was hanging on a thread-- the depression has gotten so much worse, that you can barely function.
Is there anyone out there for whom Moclobemide actually made your depression worse?

**********************************************************I've never heard of the med., is there another name for it?
I don't keep myself updated very well, I'm probably the only one here who hasn't heard of it!!!
Are you feeling better since you quit? When did you quit taking it? Sorry you were/are feeling so bad!!

Hi,
I was on moclobermide 1200mgs a day (300mgs over the recomended adult dose)for 5 monyhs. My pdoc was sure it would help and continued to insist I had to give it more time. It never worked , it maybe made my depression worse because I remember feeling some relief when I eventually stopped it. Its hard to remember exactly, but it sounds like its had a much more acute adverse effect on yourself. However side effects from taking it were minimal in comparison to other AD's.
Its obviously not a drug you should be on. Hang in there.

Moclobemide is the generic name, Aurorix or Manerix are the trade names. It is available throughout much of the world, but NOT in the U.S.; if you live there, that's why you never heard of it.> Are you feeling better since you quit? When did you quit taking it? Sorry you were/are feeling so bad!!
I'm in the process of tapering off it. That will take about 3 weeks. Still feel deathly sick with depression.

Do you have any recollection if you tapered off it gradually, or quit cold turkey? My pdoc is having me taper off at the rate of 150 mg. per week, and ordinarily I would never quit a drug cold turkey, but having to wait about 2-1/2 weeks more till I can get it out of my system seems like an eternity. Do you remember if you tapered off?

Hi Cubby,
Just to let you know, I *hated* Moclobemide. How much are you taking? I think I only made it to 150mgs. I was on it about 6 weeks; after the feeling of water in my head went away I felt really disconnected (that de-personalization or de-realization syndrome) that never went away. I couldn't think straight and it seemed to intensify fear and depression. I felt much better when I stopped taking it; is there anything you can take to ease the discomfort while you're tapering off?

Unfortunately, I'm pretty much trapped until it's out of my system. I was on 600 mg. I'm taking Klonopin (3.75 mg) before bed to help me sleep. I can take a little Xanax to "take the edge off" during the day, but my pdoc and I are afraid of the cumulative effect of too many benzos. When I see him again on Friday, I'll ask again if he has a suggestion, but I doubt it. Things are as bad as could be for me now.

> Yes, I tapered off. I can't remember by how much per week , but I spent at least a good 4 weeks coming off it. There was no real withdrawel. I know how frustrating it is when you just want the drug out of your system but its outright stupid to go cold turkey. I had done that previously with a few AD's and it was terrible.

Thanks so much for your reply. You've been very helpful. So I guess I'll have to keep on feeding myself this poison for about 17 more days.
Take care

Hi,
I'm doing the same with clonazepam at the moment, and I know how tempting it is to drop the dose real fast. Have strength in sticking to your tapering schedule, take care
