As much as I love these little puppies, I dread the three times each day I have to choke down one of those 2mg bars. Never in my 20 years on this earth have I put such a foul-tasting, bitter substance to my tongue, lol. Anyway, just wondering if anyone knew any tricks to get them down easier? Soft drinks used to help, but now I refuse to touch caffeine, sugar, or aspartame (Nutrasweet®). That of course rules out juices-- sugar. I've tried V-8 once and that just made an already quite unpleasant task into a more unpleasant one, lol.
I suppose I could always down a coupla slammers of AfterShock immediately before getting the Xanax down, but who wants to drink Cinnamon Schnapps at 8AM? That stuff stinks, man, people are gonna know you're a drunkard, lol.
Anyway, thanks in advance for any replies,
Michael

In reply to lol, I feel stupid. What to do about bitter Xanax?, posted by Ame Sans Vie on February 1, 2003, at 18:22:22
I find the bitterness of Xanax vaguely comforting. Purely Pavlovian.
One thing you could try is to buy some gelatin capsules and take your Xanax inside of one. I would guess that there wouldn't be much difference in the pharmacokinetics. Ask your doctor though.
A more drastic approach would be to switch to Klonopin as it has a slightly minty taste, or so I've found.
May you find a way to protect your taste buds ;)

Britt's solution is absolutely perfect, I've put nasty tasting meds in empty gelatin capsules (get them from your pharmacist) and it works perfectly. I did have to smile though, I actually take 2mg xanax tabs sub-ling, mush them up under my tongue so I can get instant relief from a panic attack. hope I didn't just make you ill :-) take care, judy

Or, you could just stick it inside a jellybean and swallow that (seriously!).

Take it with herbal tea, you could even sweeten the tea with stevia (a natural plant product that's incredibly sweet). :)

PS you can also get the clear gelatin capsules at some healthfood/nutrition stores. :)

Follow it up with a breath strip on your tongue!

<vomit> lol, no actually I've taken 2mg Xanax sublingually too... but it's not quite so necessary for me to do so because my attacks are quite predictable.

Hm, not a bad idea; Jelly Belly makes those sugarless jelly beans. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the reply; actually, I already use Stevia or Splenda as sweeteners. I won't touch aspartame unless it's in negligible amounts. And I definitely drink my fair share of herbal tea.
lol Thanks for the tip on the gelcaps, but I've got *plenty*... I'm a practicing herbalist and must have hundreds of thousands of them lying around my house, lol.

lol, that might work... or hurry up and gargle with Listerine after taking the pill... dammit, why can't they sugar-coat Xanax like they do with Nardil?? lol
By the way, anyone know anything about the current status of Xanax XR?

OMG, this sounds sad, but I have learned to love the 'sweet" taste of a 2mg xanax under my tongue as much as chewing my Valium. The only bezo. that I hate the taste of, and therefore would swallow, is klonopin. Yuck. Am I the only one that loves and savors the taste of oncoming relief??? ~Tony
Oh, and btw, I think that in terms of sweetness, Ativan seems the most likely for others to take sublingual or chew and be able to handle.
This is the end of the thread.
