Many apologies in advance, as I realize this board is for discussion pertaining to psych meds, but I really need some advice. Just yesterday, I had all four wisdom teeth pulled (impacted), and as I'm severely allergic to acetaminophen, aspirin, and NSAIDs, I was prescribed 65mg Darvon prn. I'm SO unbelievably sore, and really hoping someone may know of some OTC drug / food interaction that will potentiate the effects of the propoxyphene somewhat? If not... <sigh>... I suppose I'll try calling my dentist when he returns to the office tomorrow. Thanks a million. :-)>

Why not ask your doctor for oxycontin or some other stronger formulation of opioid that doesn't contain Aspirin etc.
Barring that, Grapefruit juice is the king of the natural cytochrome inhibitors. Though I'm not sure if it inhibits the cytochrome that degrades propoxyphene.
By this time your probably feeling much better anyway. But I just thought I'd post for informational purposes.

Thanks a bunch for the response, but you're right, I already got a new prescription for Vicoprofen, six times a day. I can handle the small amount of ibuprofen in those. I wasn't even aware they existed, actually. I thought all we had in the U.S. in the way of hydrocodone preparations were hydrocodone/APAP, hydrocodone/aspirin, hydrocodone/homatropine, hydrocodone/promethazine, etc. But these things sure beat out Darvon... I haven't had to take my usual 5mg / day of Klonopin since I've been on it. lol It's odd though that my teeth are still in such pain. The extraction was Thursday and the pain has only very slightly subsided. Oh well, I don't mind the pain, as long as I have these wonderful little pills. :-D
