Flu shots, anyone?

Posted by BekkaH on November 13, 2002, at 21:04:45

I don't know whether this belongs on PB or PBSocial, but I was just wondering who's getting flu shots this year, and if you're not getting one, what's your reason for not getting one?

I get a flu shot every year because 1) I hate being sick and 2) I have moderate asthma.

Never have had any problems with them either.

I had a flue shot in Nov 1994..working for a water treatment plant at that time we need to have a flu shot because of all the contaminated effluent comimg into the plant..Years before that I had a flue shot and always got sick shortly after,( not to sick that I couldn't function) ..in 1994 however I got pnemonia(spelling not sure) taking tylenol 3 restricket me from coughing out the crud in my lungs and I got boncitis..the fever went to dehydration totally and I was unable to take care of myself..luckily a friend came to check up on me and I was passed out in the middle of the floor ..don't know how long I was there ..rushed to the hospital my temperature was 106 degrees, doctor told me I was lucky to be alive ...they studied my case with 6 months of testng and followup ..I was sick for about 2 months and after 3 months was feeling back to normal...today I would not take the flue shot and haven't since then..different stroke for different folks, there could be side affects ...this is my experience and wont get the flue shot again in Toronto Ontario...Robin

I have never had a flu shot and I have only had the flu once (last year). I never got a flu shot before because I was young and didn't think I would get the flu HA! (I'm 18 BTW). I'm getting one this year though. I really hope I don't have any reactions! What's cool is that on November 22 my college is giving them for free for students and faculty. I didn't know they were free for students and faculty until today :)

I don't bother with flu shots as the last time I had a flu was 28 years ago. I don't get sick so see no need for the shots. I did have regular vaccinations as a child & do have tetanus booster shots every ten years though. I don't avoid the public, so that doesn't account for my immunity. I was at college a few years ago & now work in a large store often surrounded by sick people so have been exposed lots.

I get flu shots every year but this year am reluctant to do so after hearing they contain mercury and other problematic substances. I also heard there is a possibility that flu shots may trigger auto-immune diseases or neurological problems (though conventional medical practitioners don't address these issues).

Maybe 10 years ago but mercury was taken out some time ago. It was only in very, very small amounts, as a preservative.

The mercury was taken out? For some reason I was told otherwise. In any case, I have heard of many other possible dangers connected to these shots :)

They are bunk. Well, they are really questionable, at best. It is always true
that depending on the kind of shot (live, killed, or other) that one can get a mild case of whatever
the shot is for. There are some allergic reactions, some vaccines use eggs in the prepairation.

Here is the real rub, huge numbers of people
get vaccines and very few also get authism, ect.
Finding a causative relationship between the 2 is junk science.

I got one. I work in a hospital laboratory and the employee health nurse comes in and gives anyone a shot who wants one. We also get a free pocket calendar. That's the real reason I get the shot - I need the calendar. I had a sore arm for days after the shot.
