Pregnancy

Posted by Kelli on October 26, 2002, at 9:09:34

I was just dianosed with Major Depression and put on Lexapro. My husband and I do not use birth control so there is the possiblity of getting pregnant. Is there any information about getting pregnant while taking Lexapro? Are there any known complications?

I'm sure there probably is information about this medication, but my comment is that you should get back to your doctor ASAP and let them know this so that he/she can make the appropriate drug recommendation for you.

Call your doctor.

>I agree with Lynda, since Lexapro is fairly new, there have not been many studies indicating its use with pregnancy. I recently gave birth and spent my entire pregnancy on zoloft due to a previous experience with postpartum depression. This medication has been studied in pregnancy and both my OB and pdoc were comfortable with me taking it while pregnant. I delivered a healthy baby boy in Dec. Please let me know if you have any other questions abouts meds and pregnancy...I have been through it all.

Zoloft was also the drug I took during pregnancy. I managed to get through my first son's pregnancy with no meds, but went into a nasty postpartum depression and started on Zoloft before I was finished breastfeeding him. I only made it as far as the first trimester with my second son before I had to go back on the Zoloft and then stayed on it through the time I was breastfeeding. Both sons are fine.
